ILLNESSES AT STONE MILL–We have had a large number of students coming down with viruses, strep throat and the flu. Many of our students have fevers, cough, sore throat and/or vomiting. If your child becomes ill, PLEASE make sure he/she stays home for 24 full hours after the last time vomiting and after the fever breaks. Parents are sending in children within the 24 hours and/or on fever reducing medications (Motrin, Tylenol, etc.) causing the illnesses to spread to others. Please keep sick children home. Thanks!
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART – Thank you to everyone who donated funds and/or assisted in our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser for the American Heart Association! Stone Mill students raised $13,310.53!! We had 60 volunteers who assisted in this fabulous event! A special thank you to Susan Bock for guiding our parent volunteers throughout the week.
CAREER AWARENESS DAY – What a fabulous turn out and what amazing speakers we had for our Career Awareness Day! The children were treated to presentations from a variety of doctors, accountants, scientists, engineers, attorneys, bankers, camp directors, and other wonderful professionals. Special thanks to Susan Bock and Kathy Forrest for organizing the day, and huge kudos to our wonderful presenters!
FROM THE COUNSELOR - During the month of May the staff and students at Stone Mill will focus on the pillar of character, FAIRNESS, in the Character Counts! Program. Parents play an important role in modeling behavior that is both tolerant and fair.
- Model for your child treating all people fairly.
- Define diversity and note examples of diversity in your family. A relative might have come from another family.
- Help your child learn to consider all the facts, including opposing views, before making a decision.
- Make impartial decisions using the same criteria, rules, or standards for everyone.
- You can effectively teach tolerance by being a good role model. A parent’s example is the best teacher.
- Encourage your child not to take advantage of other people’s mistakes or ignorance.
- Teach the “golden rule.” Teaching your child to treat others the way that he/she wants to be treated will allow for making better choices.
- Teach your child not to let personal prejudices or other feelings improperly interfere with decisions that should be based on merit.
- Help your child learn to take turns and play by the rules.
- Help your child be more understanding of the weaknesses of others.
Bully Prevention Tip: Monitor your child’s utilization of technology. Be vigilant for inappropriate use of texting and e-mail.
