MemberAppointments to Grampian NHSBoard

The Cabinet Secretaryfor Health and Sporttoday announced the appointment of Amy Anderson and Anne Begg toGrampian NHS Board.

MEMBERS

Amy Andersonhas a voluntary sector background and is Grampian Director of PAMIS, which supports those with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their families. Prior to this, she worked for Carers Scotland as an advocacy worker and developed resources for the Scottish Government to support family carers to get their voices heard. Amy also has experience in the private sector, where she was a Research Manager in the food and drink industry and then an Economic Consultant specialising in skills and workforce development evaluations for the health and social care sectors. She is also an experienced trainer and facilitator. She brings wide-ranging professional experience to the Board, a passionate patient and carer perspective and a collaborative and creative approach to challenges. Amy has a Degree in International Politics and professional qualifications in Counselling Skills (COSCA) and Market Research Methods (MRS).

Anne Beggstudied in Aberdeen, then taught English in Angus schools before becoming the MP for Aberdeen South in 1997. She now lives in Cove, Aberdeen. As someone with a hereditary disease resulting in her using a wheelchair permanently since 1984, she has a great deal of personal experience of the NHS.Dame Anne has extensive experience in scrutinising executive decisions as a member of various Parliamentary committees over the 18 years she sat in the House of Commons, including being Chair of the influential Work and Pensions Select committee from 2010-2015.In the 2011 New Year’s Honours list she was awarded a DBE for her services to disabled people and equal opportunities. In June 2016 she received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Aberdeen.

APPOINTMENTS

Both appointments will be for four years and will run from 1 August 2016 to 31 July 2020.

Theseappointmentsare regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

REMUNERATION

These appointments are part-time and attract a remuneration of £8,169for a time commitment of 1 day per week.

OTHER MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS

Anne Begg is a Council Member of the Scottish Social Services Council, for which she receives remuneration of £137 per day, for a time commitment of 5 days per month. Amy Anderson does not hold any other public appointments.

POLITICAL ACTIVITY

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

Anne Begg stood as anMP for Aberdeen South from 1997-2015,Supported Labour candidates in 2016 Scottish elections andcampaigned for Labour Remain and the cross party IN campaign in the EU referendum.

BACKGROUND

Through hospital and local based services, NHS Grampian is responsible for meeting the health needs of the half-million population spread over 3,000 square miles of city, town, village and rural communities. From April 2016 NHS Grampian’s fully integrated Health and Social Care Partnerships moved from shadow form to full operation across their three Local Authority areas of Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray. NHS Grampian is alsovery closely linked with both the University of Aberdeen and The Robert Gordon University, especially in the fields of research, workforce planning and training.
