Stages Of life And Its Importance
Life is an open book and we learn each step as we grow. Stages play an important role in life because it teaches us how to deal in reality. Life teaches us ways, which connect us to take the steps. Basically, there are many general stages of development. Erikson, anego-psychologist describes the development of human in different stages. Each growing stage is important in the lifespan i.e. newborn to adolescence, adolescenceto adulthood and then adulthood to the old age. I believe that the most important stage in life is the young adulthood. It’s the stage where young adults are matured to take the decisions of their life. Young people in transition life stage are successful leaners, confident, and they have a positive supportable purpose towards their life.
Successive stages of life from birth to the middle age are really important to know because these are the stages that are important for a child to grow. Early childhoodis connected to a person’s life that shapes wha. Infant is the stage where kids are fed and they start the first chapter of life. It is really a challenge for the infants to see the world, where one has no worries; they are born as clean like a glass. They have no idea of what is going to happen and how they will see the world. They accept the reality and begin the first stage of life by learning to walk on there on, to talk and learn from parents. It is important because this shapes a child’s thought and behavior.
During the pre-school years a child is shaped to learn the basics of life. The school age is an age where children learn what is right and wrong and sense what will lead them to progress well, mostly parents are responsible to take care of their children’s development needs. School age is a long-term outcome, which shows an adult about the identity and their role. That age interact with them to find about their identity. What and why are they doing? Kids during this age period know that if they will remain true to themselves they will gain success but if they will not then they will face failure, which will lead them to disappointment.
During the progression, parental love is also important towards their children. If parents are light in handling their children, they might end up being irresponsible and undeveloped. Robert Bly and American poet in his excerpt, the sibling society mentions: “What the young need-stability, presence, attention, advice, good psychic food, unpolluted stories-is exactly what the sibling society won’t give them” (Pg. 11) The young kids need attention and care through which they can walk on the correct path. If care is not given properly then kids may deceive in their future life.It is true because interest should be taken in the young ones by helping them and asking them about their feelings in order to make kids on parent’s side. Kids won’t hide anything if parents are open for discussion with their child. As we go along with the age, there are false assumptions that keep growing in the hearts, which we think, are true but in reality it is different. Grace Craig, a professor at the University of Massachusetts discuss about the development of different stages of life as people age, in her book, Human Development. Craig studied Gould, a psychologist on the adult development research and views her concept on different periods of early adulthood.
It is true that as we grow we face different challenges in our lives. We also think life is easy going as long as we get dependent. Gould mentions that from ages 16 to 22, the big false assumption made by young adults is that, “I’ll always belong to my parents and believe in their world” (Craig, 47) Young people between these ages think that their parents will always support them. A friend of mine, Maria, falls in this age category and she thought the same way when she was in a maturing age. She used to tell me she was wrong because now she wants to do something for their parents. She had no worries of anything. Mostly people think of life as easy path to handle because they don’t have to worry about anything. During this age of young adulthood, parents usually pay for the expenses, they had to pick up their kids from school and drop back. It is for a single person [dad] to handle all the fess it is really very hard.
Presently, myself including my parents are living together. Gould mentions about the process of ‘growth’ as, “casting off childish illusions and false assumptions” (Pg. 47) just like the day a child is born, they follow their parents, in this case we still think that our parents are going to help us out throughout our life. We know that parents can’t support us throughout their lives. After giving it a thought we usually cogitate that we were so wrong for all these years.
Early adulthood is an important stage of life because this is where mostly students stand out for themselves. It’s a stage where one has to think of a path to what are they going to choose that will lead them to a better future. We are responsible for our life. After graduating from high school, we had to choose a path for our profession. We have to decide which area is perfect for us that will lead our life towards success. To me it was also hard to decide what career to choose because I was confused between Art and Information Technology. We are still in the process of learning. This is the age where we shape our own identity. We start to find ourselves while learning.
Steve Jobs, who was the founder of Apple Computer, shared his life experience with the college graduates at Stanford University. He described his life in three segments, which lead him into a successful man. Jobs philosophy, "Stay hungry, Stay foolish", gives us an example of being a wealthy person. Jobs states, “you’ve got to find what you love” (Pg. 2) The quote means that in order to do something in life we have to find what we like to do, the area in which one will prosper. And young adulthood is the exact age period where mostly teenagers found the answer. There is no right answer, if one fails then it’s not the end of life. It’s a second chance to stand up again and try something different that we learned while failing first.
In another article from Gail Sheehy, who is a best selling American author and a journalist writes, “The Age of Integrity is primarily a stage of spiritual growth. Instead of focusing on time running out, we should make it a daily exercise to mark the moment” (Sheehy, 7). Adulthood is where we have to start another chapter of life but asking ourselves, what is next? We have to be honest in order to answer this question because this will become a challenge in the stage of our development.
If we look today, ages are shifted a little bit. For example, a kid who is about 8 years old has thoughts about a 16-year-old adult. Is it technology or the parents, which can’t handle their children properly? Technology is so advanced that everything can be found in few clicks. Many kids today think ahead of their life. There is a lot of freedom in America, after eighteen years old some children leave their parents and start building their future. They start to live independently on there on. This can be a negative part for the young adults. But in some cultures that isn’t accepted. For example, in Pakistan the culture is totally different, especially for girls. Boys are the ones to work and earn a living for family. Girls are meant to get education and learn how to take care of the housework.
In Pakistan, I didn’t go to college on my own, it was dad who picked and dropped me. I still remember how Mom use to take care of me in every step of my educational field during high school, even though in college too. She always asks me if anything was bothering me in studies. I did have a lot of trouble in science and history subjects. Because of mom I did great in science subjects because she used to sit with me to help me prepare for the exam, she wake till late nights until I was cleared with the subject. Dad always helped me remember the history of Pakistan, which always bothered me to remember for the exam. My parents are a huge support for me. I try my best to handle home and education so that mom and dad don’t have to worry about me. Above 20 is the age where we start thinking as a mature adult. I know my status now, an adult whose goal is to serve parents for the rest of their life.
Another important stage in life after finding our profession is to find a lifetime partner. This is crucial because we need to find a life companion that will accept the way we are and will understand and support us throughout the life. No one can live a life of 80 years of ages without founding a perfect mate. As parents get old as we grow up they won’t be able to give you support. There are some things that are need to discuss privately with a friend, a mate, who will show a right direction.
Lastly, after graduating with a degree, people start their own business and make their living some of them still stress about their life and many think about the past life, how it went. How they face the consequences that lead them to the path where they were meant to walk. For example, my grand mom is almost 80 years old, she love telling us stories about her past. Her most precious moments were with grandfather. Mate is important to complete the lifecycle.Young adulthood is an important aspect that acknowledges us the difference of living a standard life.
