Encourage them to keep coughing
- When a person cannot cough, speak, or breathe and the person is conscious then do five back blows and five abdominal thrust.
- One cycle of CPR consist of 30 compressions and 2 breaths.
- 5 cycles of CPR are performed in 2 minutes. However, once you have started CPR continueuntil medical help arrives, the scene becomes unsafe, you are too tired to continue, or the person begins breathing on their own.
- Do not move a person in an emergency unless the scene becomes unsafe and the person may be in danger or you need to give care.
- You have to tilt the head back when breathing in to the manikin so that the airway is open.
- Breathe in just enough air for the chest to gently rise and fall. The breath should take about 1 second.
- Check for signs of breathing for 10 seconds.
- If someone is in shock you need to raise their legs, talk to them, and keep them comfortable.
- The best way to check and see if a person is conscious is to tap and shout “Are you okay?” If no response call EMS/ 911.
