AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Western University’s Local Government Program Alumni Society is now calling for nominations for its third annual presentation of the Award of Excellence. The Award of Excellence is an initiative that honours an individual who has inspired creativity, innovation and conviction in belief of the merits of delivering public service excellence.
Nominees will have demonstrated specific attributes or competencies in their career, which have inspired others and results in public service excellence. These competencies are found on the Nomination Form.
Eligibility
Any individual who has inspired creativity, innovation and conviction in belief of the merits of delivering public service excellence is eligible to be nominated.
Purpose
The purpose of this Award is to bring attention to the achievements of individuals who complement the tenets of the Western University Local Government Program, specifically demonstrating and exploring the connections between management and the political process. Each nomination submission will describe an individual and their accomplishments that demonstrate the highest standards of public service excellence, to the benefit of citizens, clients or staff, or the practice of administrative/public service professionalism.
Making a Nomination
The Award will be presented annually to a nominee who has demonstrated the following attributes or competencies, within in their career, which has inspired others and resulted in public service excellence: customer-centered service, fiscal accountability, innovation, results orientation, leadership and collaboration.
The nomination shall include how the individual has been service oriented, fiscally accountable, innovative, and results oriented, has shown leadership and been collaborative in their approach; how he or she has offered efficient or effective solutions to a stated issues; how these have been implemented and what the results have been.
If partners and collaborators from external organizations were involved in the described achievements, their endorsements may be included in the application. Where they have been involved, a senior staff official may provide written support of the application submission.
An individual may nominate themselves or may submit more than one application of others. All nominations submitted will be considered by a selection committee, comprised of public sector practitioners and academics.
The deadline for submissions is September 5, 2014.
Award Presentation
The presentation of the Local Government Program Alumni Society Award of Excellence will be made at the Local Government Program Alumni Society Annual Conference, to be held November 7, 2014 in London Ontario. The Award recipient, and a guest of their choice, will be hosted by the Alumni Society to attend the Local Government Program Alumni Society conference to be presented with the Award.

CRITERIA
1. Customer Service
List and provide a detailed description of how nominee delivers high quality and professional services to citizens; delivers people-centred services; serves and protects citizens.
2. Fiscal Accountability
Provide specific examples of how the nominee has managed finances in the best interest of the citizens and encouraged citizen involvement and participation.
3. Innovation
List and provide a detailed description of how nominee innovates according to changing environments, contributes to a learning organization, strives for solutions and services that are fair and equitable; provides options for a green, liveable community.
4. Results Orientation
Describe how nominee fosters citizen satisfaction with service delivery and measures results against expectations.
5. Leadership and Collaboration
Describe how nominee fosters a learning environment which supports research, education, personal growth and development of self and others.
