Paragraph 1: introduction to the job: include school, college, field, type of position, and start date. The School of [name] at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a [type of position; eg, tenure-track assistant professorship] in[specific field, eg: modern American women’s history; mathematics education – be specific about the kind of faculty member who will be considered qualified for this position] to begin in [start date; eg, August, 2009].

Paragraph 2: detailed information: include specific responsibilities in all areas, typical teaching load, and other details the dept deems necessary. The successful candidate will be responsible for effective teaching, research [or other appropriate professional activity like composing, directing, etc.], service, and advising [and any other required activities: eg, supervising student teaching]. Specific responsibilities will include [list all the areas the successful candidate must be able to cover: eg, teaching a required methods class for political science majors; teaching physics for music majors; directing a nursing practicum; a two-semester intensive sequence in Italian literature from 1200-present; advising pre-med majors; working with local engineering firms to create internships for senior majors; overseeing national agency accreditation; preparation of teachers for urban schools; etc.]. Paragraph 3: position requirements: include all required qualifications and any preferred qualifications. Be specific about whether and under what conditions ABD candidates qualify.
