Call to Worship

Ask and it will be given to you,

search and you will surely find,

Knock and the door will be opened,

for the Lord our God is faithful.

Let us worship God.

Hymn, Psalm, or Spiritual Song

Prayer of the Day

God of heaven and earth,

through Jesus Christ our Lord

you have taught us how to pray.

Keep us faithful, O God,

in daily prayer and in daily life—

always asking and searching

for signs of your coming realm,

on earth as it is in heaven.

This we pray in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

Call to Confession

At the baptismal font:

We have been buried with Christ in baptism,

in order that we might be raised with him

through faith in the power of God.

Colossians 2:12

Trusting in God’s grace,

let us confess our sin.

Prayer of Confession

Faithful and loving God, we confess

that we have not lived in faith and love.

You claim us as your own people,

but we forsake your holy covenant.

You offer us the gift of prayer,

but we forget to lift our hearts to you.

Forgive us, God of grace.

Help us to live our lives in Christ,

rooted and grounded in our faith

and growing each day in your love;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Lifting water from the baptismal font:

Once we were dead in sin;

now we are alive in Christ.

Colossians 2:13

In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

Thanks be to God.

Prayer for Illumination

At the lectern or pulpit:

Your Word, O God,

and respond with joy. Amen.

Affirmation of Faith

General Use / Time after Pentecost

We believe that God

brings justice to the oppressed

and gives bread to the hungry.

We believe that God

frees the prisoner

and restores sight to the blind.

We believe that God

supports the downtrodden,

protects the stranger,

helps orphans and widows,

and blocks the path of the ungodly.

Adapted from the Confession of Belhar

Prayers of the People

Surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses,

we pray for the fulfillment of God’s promise,

saying: In faith, O God, we seek your grace.

We pray for the church . . .

Teach us to pray as Jesus taught,

calling on your loving care

and giving honor to your holy name.

In faith, O God, we seek your grace.

We pray for the world . . .

Let your kingdom come

and let your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

In faith, O God, we seek your grace.

We pray for this community . . .

Give daily bread to the hungry.

Help us to forgive one another

even as you have forgiven us.

In faith, O God, we seek your grace.

We pray for loved ones . . .

Save them from times of testing

and deliver them from evil,

all for the glory of your holy name.

In faith, O God, we seek your grace.

Strengthen us to run the race that is before us,

laying aside the heavy burdens of sin and death

and following the pioneer and perfecter of our faith:

Jesus Christ, our crucified and risen Lord. Amen.

Invitation to Offering

At the communion table:

Jesus has taught us

not to store up treasures for ourselves,

but to be rich toward God—

for where our treasures are,

there will our hearts be also.

With gratitude for God’s grace,

let us offer our lives to the Lord.

Luke 12:21, 34

Prayer of Dedication

At the communion table:

Generous God,

we bring you these gifts with gratitude

that we have such gifts to share.

May all that we share

be used for your glory,

and for the work of justice and peace,

compassion and joy,

in this community

and in your world. Amen.

Eucharistic Prayer

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Blessed are you, O Lord our God:

You answer us when we call on you.

Though we have been unfaithful to you

you never fail to love and forgive us.

Therefore we praise you, joining the song

of the universal church and the heavenly choir:

A Sanctus (“Holy, holy, holy”) is sung.

Blessed is Jesus Christ, our Savior:

Jesus has taught us how to pray—

seeking your will on earth as in heaven

and relying on your goodness and grace.

The words of institution are included here.

Remembering your goodness and grace,

we offer ourselves to you with gratitude

as we share this joyful feast.

A Memorial Acclamation (e.g., “Christ has died”) is sung.

Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us

and upon this bread and cup;
make us one in the body and blood

of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Keep us rooted and grounded in faith,

living in the hope of Christ’s resurrection

and serving you in perfect freedom.

Through the Lord Jesus Christ,

in the unity of the Spirit,

we bless you, God of glory,

now and forever.

An Amen is sung.

Nourishing God, thank you for inviting us

to your table where all are welcome,

and for feeding us with the bread of life

and quenching our thirst with the cup of blessing.

As you have filled our lives with love and hope,

may we be a source of your love and hope

for others who hunger and thirst

for good news. Amen.
