Patient Benefits of Experia

Multiple channels of electrotherapy

At least 2 patients can be treated simultaneously with the 4 available channels, providing greater productivity for the therapy staff.

Mobility

The unit can easily be moved around within the facility, facilitating the treatment of patients unable to leave their room.

High Volt waveform

The unique characteristics of the High Volt Pulsed Current (HVPC) waveform available on Experia allow it to penetrate the skin with greater ease than traditional waveforms. This enables effective treatment of head and neck cancer patients with significant fibrosis as a result of radiation.

VMS waveform

Parameters such as frequency and phase duration can be decreased in the VMS waveform on Experia. This permits more effective treatment of fatigable patients such as in severe deconditioning, acute stroke or progressive neuromuscular disease.

Surface EMG

In addition to the various electrotherapy waveforms, the Experia unit offers surface electromyography biofeedback (sEMG). The use of sEMG permits the therapist to establish an objective baseline measurement of muscle recruitment and measure progress accordingly. This facilitates goal-centered therapy.

sEMG triggered stimulation

The use sEMG biofeedback can be used alone or combined with electrotherapy so as to encourage patients to give their maximum effort during therapy. Especiallycognitively impaired patientsbenefit from this approach.

Manual stim mode

Research demonstrates that all that some patients need is to be taught how to initiate the swallow effort. In Manual Stim mode the patient (or the therapist) activates the stimulation when pressing a button thereby training the coordination of the effort. Patients with trouble initiating or timing the swallow can be treated effectively with this approach.

Treatment outcome tracking

Important treatment data are recorded on the patient data card on Experia. This allows continuity of treatment when another therapist takes over treatment at some point, and ensures greater compliance with regulatory bodies.

User protocols

The Experia unit permits the clinician to customize parameter settings for different patient types and then save these settings as user protocols. These protocols can be retrieved later for similar patient thereby encouraging greater continuity and standardization of clinical care.

Clinical education

Experia customers receive 3 contact hours of advanced clinical training onsite for the entire clinical staff and receive ongoing access to clinical specialists for consultation as needed. The education fosters increased clinical skill level of the dysphagia therapists and leads to improved treatment outcomes for all patient types.

Marketability of the Dysphagia program

Research demonstrates that dysphagia patients and their physicians often do not realize that effective treatments are available. Experia is today’s state-of-the-art treatment tool; its presence allows a treatment center to offer more treatment options to patients who otherwise would have stayed on feeding tubes or modified diets.
