You will read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain in two parts.
Part 1: Chapters 1-20 Test: ______________
Part 2: Chapters 21-end Test: ______________
We will hold a two-day Socratic Seminar after each test. These Socratic Seminars will replace the “Say Mean Matters” for this novel and will be worth 50 points each. The class will be divided in half with each half of the class discussing on each day. Those discussing on Day 2 must address new topics.
You will earn points based on:
1. The quality of your written Socratic Seminar ticket questions. 20 points
2. The quality of your contribution to the actual discussion. 20 points
3. Your adherence to the norms of Socratic Seminars 10 points
Norms:
· Don’t raise hands
· Listen carefully
· Address one another respectfully
· Base opinions on the text
· Use sensitivity to take turns and not interrupt each other
· Monitor ‘air time’ (saying too much or saying too little)
· Be courageous in presenting your ideas but be flexible and willing to change your mind in the face of new and compelling evidence.
The following prompts must be must answered in complete sentences and typed. You must write down the chapter that invoked your question or comment. You must have two sentences for each prompt for a total of 22 sentences. Please include the page number for the prompts that require quotes from the book.
