Lesson / Students will be given their Stems and due Dates. We will discuss how to complete the packet.
We will discuss figurative vs. Literal language. Students will be given copies of the poems.
We will annotate the poems. Students will discuss idioms and their use in the poem. We will look at figurative language and focus on simile, metaphor, and personification. Students will answer questions 1-4 together in groups and will write their answers on their half-sheets. / Students will watch a short video on Shakespeare’s life. We will annotate and discuss “Sonnet 43”. Students will do this on their own half-sheet of paper.
Together in partners, the students need to read and record the questions on page 76, analyzing the differences between the two poems. / Test on “The Song of Wandering Aengus” and “Sonnet 43”
TTW show the beginning of “Amazing Grace” showing a tour of the Freedom Museum, and the beginning where the white horses are coming in and saving the black horses, and throwing the whip away.
Write the critical vocab on the board from page 70. Have students draw a non-linguistic representation of what they think the story might be about.
Go through the background on page 63.
Have students complete the vocab activity on page in their ISN.
How is a Folktale different from a myth? / . TSW read “The People Could Fly”, with a copy of the close read questions in front of them, stopping to discuss when needed. Then, in their ISN, they complete page 69. On question 3, they need to create a Story Map similar to the one on page 68. It should be drawn neatly and labeled.
