Amite- District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux reports that Joshua Charrier, 31, of Independence, LA, was convicted of Second Degree Murder on September 1, 2011.
Before presiding judge Doug Hughes, Charrier’s defense attorney, Doug Brown, explained to jurors that the shooting death of Kimberly Aleman had been an accident.
However, Assistant District Attorney Brad Berner showed through witness testimony that the murder was pre-meditated, with specific intent to kill.
The two-day trial came to an end Thursday evening. A twelve-person jury deliberated for over four hours, concluding with a guilty verdict.
A Second Degree Murder conviction requires a mandatory life sentence without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Sentencing is set for September 14, 2011, said Perrilloux.
