PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The primary purpose of the role of Curriculum Manager is to:
- Lead and manage learner recruitment, the total learner experience, successful achievement of qualifications and progression of learners;
- To lead, manage and develop the curriculum team delivering your curriculum area and to the learners within your designated area;
- To lead and manage the development of the curriculum and its resources to ensure it keeps abreast of the latest occupational changes associated with your curriculum area;
- To actively engage with the cross college leadership and management functions, led by others, that impact upon your curriculum areas, learners, staff team and curriculum delivery
- To lead and manage the CTL(s) within your curriculum area and under your curriculum management
Further responsibilities which underpin these five key components of the role of the Curriculum Manager include:
Bring strong curriculum expertise and quality management to the delivery of the curriculum area. To lead and take overall responsibility including line management of curriculum team leaders, coordinators and staff team within area designated.
To lead and have curriculum development responsibility for the curriculum area
Ensure the delivery of a high quality learning experience for learners throughout their learning journey. To supervise lecturers assigned to post holder and promote high standards of teaching, learning and assessment strategies. To Coordinate and monitor the work of the staff team designated to curriculum area. Support the Head of Sector by contributing curriculum and quality management expertise to the curriculum team.
1 Leadership, Managerial and Curriculum responsibilities
1.1Take responsibility for the overall curriculum management of the team, keeping abreast with new developments affecting area of responsibility and advise the Assistant Director accordingly
1.2To be part of the management team, leading on designated curriculum areas and
coordinating related X-College initiatives for staff and learners.
1.3To plan & lead the future development, taking a positive and sensitive attitude to change management in order to take advantage of new opportunities
1.4Provide strong curriculum leadership in encouraging wider participation and growth and responding positively to the Government initiatives and policies for Further Education
1.5To be proactive in developing, facilitating and supporting curriculum change in order to meet local needs, fostering a positive relationship across the Borough and within the immediate local community
1.6To carry out staff time tabling and local budget management within and for curriculum teams, with particular reference to the operational management of physical and human resources
2Quality Management
2.1.1To develop and ensure the delivery of a high quality learning experience to all learners and to promote high standards of teaching
2.1.2Develop and embed internal quality improvement systems consistent with overall College quality practice
2.1.3Setting and monitoring targets for learner participation, retention, achievement and success
2.4Undertake lesson observation of members in the curriculum team
2.5Act as a teaching and learning mentor to curriculum team leaders
3 Line Management and Support
3.1Participate in and promote relevant Appraisal activities for the curriculum area including conducting appraisal interviews for Curriculum Team Leaders
3.2To be responsible for the management of the curriculum team staff members with regard to probationary, disciplinary and other related procedures
3.3Provide professional advice and assistance to Curriculum Team Leaders in developing curriculum offer
3.4To lead and support others in implementing consistent and coherent standards, policies and practices in relation to providing a quality curriculum offer across the Sector
3.5Participate in the Staff Development Review and Appraisal scheme. Undertake
in- service training based on an agreed assessment of individual and service needs
3.6Give guidance and monitoring support to continually improve standards of curriculum delivery and learner retention, achievement, success and progression
4 Teaching and Related Activities
4.1To teach on College premises or off site. Undertake learner recruitment, induction, tutorial work, associated outreach work, residential, open and distance learning work and student placements
4.2Undertake associated organizational/administrative work, together with preparation and marking associated with timetabled work
4.3Undertake related appropriate learner recruitment, welfare and academic counseling
4.4To ensure continuous improvement in the grade profile of teaching, learning and assessment in the Sector
5Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable adults
5.1Understand and comply with Safeguarding legislation and ensure that best practice is embedded in all working practices as required
5.2Commitment to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, ensuring that this commitment is demonstrated in all aspects of the role as appropriate
6Health and Safety

Conditions of Service

Hours of Work
The hours of work for this post will not normally exceed 36 hours per week.
Salary
This post has been evaluated on Scale 39 of the LecturingScale. This currently equates to £37,986 per annum plus£2,958 London Weighting. Please note that if you are appointed your salary will be based on a match to your current salary (or your highest salary within the last 18 months) up to the maximum stated above (evidence of this will be required in the form of an up-to-date payslip).
Salaries are paid monthly on the 25th of every month or the last working day prior to the 25th if the 25th falls on a weekend or bank holiday. The only exception to this is for the December payment, which will be on an earlier date that will be notified to you on an annual basis. Payment will be made direct into a bank/building society account. You will need to provide details of your branch, account number and sort code before payment can be made to you.
Annual Leave
25 days per annum and all Bank and Public Holidays normally observed in England and Wales. The College also shuts for an additional 5 efficiency closure days plus 3 statutory days which the Principal will set at the beginning of the academic year. Although every effort will be made to meet requirements for Annual Leave, service demands will take preference. All leave is subject to an efficient service being maintained and specific restrictions may apply.
Pension Scheme – Local Government Pension Scheme
If you are aged between 16 and 65 years old you are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Contributions vary between 5.50% and 7.50% depending on salary for Employees before tax is deducted and the College currently contributes a further 14.5%. All eligible employees will have to elect to be brought into the Scheme, and a contribution, dependent on full time equivalent annual salary, is deducted from salary prior to tax. Additional voluntary contributions can be arranged via AVCs or Added Years. Applicants must make a decision whether to contribute or not - deductions will be made automatically if no election is made. You may only apply for a refund within the first three months of employment
Probationary Period
Appointment will be subject to a probationary period of six months in the first instance.
Staff Development
As part of the Contract of Employment, all appointees will be required to attend staff development events and take part in the College’s Performance Management and Appraisal scheme.

All appointments are made subject to medical clearance. The successful candidate will be required to complete a medical questionnaire, which is sent to the College's Occupational Health Adviser. (Currently Haringey Council).
