CLASS TITLE:PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITION PROGRAM MANAGER

This is work managing the statewide nutrition and dietetic program in the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class exercise(s) independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and/or preparation and administration of budgets.

- Serves as the chief nutrition and dietetics specialist for the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services.
- Provides statewide direction to nutrition and dietetic service programs to promote and maintain health and prevent and control disease.
- Identifies client nutritional needs and determines nature and extent of problems of malnutrition and hunger in the state.
- Establishes nutrition goals, policies, priorities, and standards through short and long term program planning.
- Directs and integrates nutrition services with other services provided by state, district, county health, and rehabilitative programs.
- Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition services in institutions operated, licensed, or certified by the department.
- Recruits, orients, directs, and evaluates nutrition staff and provides for their continuing career development and in-service training.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with state and local health, education, research, governmental, and other agencies concerned with food and nutrition to strengthen and promote activities related to improving nutrition and diet for the people of the state.
- Initiates and directs the development of nutrition education and informational materials on nutrition for the department and mass communications media.
- Prepares periodic and special records and reports on nutrition activities and services and analyzes for program planning evaluation.
- Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A registered dietician as defined by the American Dietetic Association and five years of professional experience in public health nutrition, two years of which must have involved supervisory or consultative duties and one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university in public health nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition or food service management may substitute for one year of the non-supervisory experience.
- A doctorate from an accredited college or university in public health nutrition, dietetics or food and nutrition may substitute for two years of the non-supervisory experience.
- Certain position employed in this class must be licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 21M, Section 48.001, 48.002, or 48.003, Florida Administrative Code.
