Book template
This document is intended to provide a basic guide for authors on how to structure and format their book submissions. If you would like to include elements not included in this template, or deviate away from the below guide, please discuss this with us during the book proposal process.
Title page/Cover details
Main title: [exactly as it should appear in the publication]
Sub-title: [exactly as it should appear in the publication]
Author(s)/editor(s) name: [exactly as they should appear in the publication]
Cover details:[If the project has specific requirements regarding the cover (e.g. funder logo), please provide details here. Ubiquity Press reserves the task of cover design, however, if you have suggested design ideas then these can also be placed here.]
Dedication [optional]
[if you would like to dedicate the book to a person/persons, please add the text here]
Table of Contents
[this will be created during typesetting therefore it is not required during review]
Acknowledgements [optional]
[acknowledgement text can be added here]
Contributors [optional]
[short paragraphs (150 words max) detailing the authors’ research interests, affiliations, biography etc. can be added here. Authors should be listed in alphabetical order by last name. Contact details can be added, and ORCID numbers are recommended]
Competing interests
[If any of the authors/editors have any competing interests then these must be declared as part of the author/editor information. Competing interests can take the form of both financial and non-financial relationships. The declaration of such relationships helps to ensure that academic rigour is maintained and that publications cannot be accused of undue bias or misinformation. If you are unsure, please raise this with the publisher.
If no competing interests are to be declared then the section must read ‘The author(s)/editor(s) declare that they have no competing interests in publishing this book.’]
Preface [optional]
[If the book is to have a preface/introduction then this should be added here]
Section title page [optional]

Chapter title:
Author name(s):[if an edited volume]
Author affiliation(s): [if an edited volume]
Email address for corresponding author:[optional]
Abstract:[optional. Recommended for edited volumes but not for monographs]
*Note: please do not attach footnotes/endnotes to any of the above information.
Chapter text
Headings [should be clearly identifiable and show level heading hierarchy when relevant. Using ‘heading’ styles can help to identify your heading and subheadings in this manner. The preference is to not use numbered sub-headings (e.g. ‘Participant response’ rather than ‘2.3.1: Participant response’), unless they are directly being referred to in the main text]
Text [font type and size is up to the author, however this will be changed to press style during typesetting. Text should be clearly written in paragraphs, with elements such as long quotes clearly separated and identifiable]
Footnotes/Endnotes [both footnotes and endnotes are permitted but authors should note that it is not possible to have footnotes in some of the digital formats of the publication, due to responsive page design, so formats such as epub files will have footnotes converted to endnotes. Notes should not be used to provide full reference details, as these should appear in a separate reference list (see below)]
Images [for the review process images can be inserted into the text file, however this may restrict the image quality. We will, therefore, require high resolution versions of the original files should the book be accepted for typesetting. Final image files must have a resolution of 300dpi or above). Files can be no more than 20MB per file. The files must be in one of the following formats: JPG, TIFF, GIF, PNG, EPS (to maximise quality, the original source file is preferred. All images should be given a sequential figure number, i.e. Figure 1, Figure 2 etc]
Tables [tables should be created using a ‘table tool’ and should not be tabbed text. All tables should be included in the manuscript file. The formatting of tables should avoid: Rotated text; Colour to denote meaning; Images; Vertical or diagonal lines. This is because they will not display the same on all devices. All table should be given a sequential table number, i.e. Table 1, Table 2 etc]
Citations[all references to sources used in the text must be clearly cited using a recognised style (e.g. Harvard ‘author year’, or Vancouver ‘numeric’). The full reference details must then be provided at the end of the chapter chapter when in an edited volume, or at the end of the book for a monograph. All images and tables should be sequentially numbered (e.g. ‘Figure 1’, ‘Figure 2’; ‘Table 1’, ‘Table 2’) and cited within the main text]
If an edited volume
Acknowledgements [optional and must be specific to the chapter. These should be placed after the main text and clearly labelled]
Previous publication [it is mandatory to declare if any of the chapter contents have been published elsewhere and any relevant licencing or permission information]
Reference list [if in a monograph this should appear after the main text has ended. If in an edited volume then each chapter may have an individual reference list. References should be formatted according to a recognised referencing style and should be confirmed to the publisher during the proposal/contract stage. Press preference is for Harvard, Vancouver or APA, however if you would like an alternative, please discuss this with us as early as possible]
Index [Optional: if you are creating an embedded index for the book then it should appear as the last section of the book. The publisher can provide guidance on this process]
