Delivering Social Services Every Day
Social services are working more and more collaboratively to deliver services to New Zealanders. This occurs throughout the sector, from frontline NGOs delivering services on behalf of multiple agencies, all the way to agencies and Ministries in Wellington working together to find new solutions.

2014 House of Representatives Sitting Programme
The House sitting programme shows the agreed sitting days for the House of Representatives in 2014. Normal sitting hours during the year are:
- Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 2pm to 6pm and 7.30pm to 10pm
- Thursdays: 2pm to 6pm.

Department of Internal Affairs Community Internship Programme
The Department of Internal Affairs will be seeking applications for the 2015 Community Internship Programme from the end of June until 11 September 2014. This programme is a three-way partnership designed to strengthen community organisations, increase understanding, and encourage co-operation between the government, local authority, iwi, corporate, business and community sectors. Interns from corporate organisations have the chance to spend time working in NGOs on a defined piece of work.
Key information:
- Applications for full-time internships of three or six months are preferred, but part-time internships of up to 12 months may be considered.
- The start date should be between 1 January 2015 and 1 June 2015.
- DIA covers the secondees salary only (not Kiwisaver, superannuation or supervision costs) for the duration of the secondment.
- The host organisation needs to identify its area for development and be clear about what it wants the intern to do during the internship. For instance, an internship may focus on developing policies and procedures, planning, or developing systems that build the host organisation's capacity and capability to operate more effectively.

Office for Disability Issues – Making a Difference Fund – now open
The Making a Difference Fund supports individuals, organisations and businesses to make communities more inclusive of disabled people. Thousands of New Zealanders have attended concerts and workshops, seen posters and exhibitions, or explored accessibility in their workplace or social environment.
The fund is for projects that:
- promote change within organisations and businesses
- influence media and popular culture
- change the beliefs of non-disabled people
- build the capacity of disabled and non-disabled people to be change makers.

New Zealand Population Health Congress, Closing date for submission of abstracts: 29 May 2014
Invitation: The New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine, the Public Health Association and the Health Promotion Forum are pleased to issue this third call for abstracts for the first New Zealand Population Health Congress (6-8 October 2014).
They are inviting abstracts from across the population health spectrum, including those working closely with communities, health promoters, front-line public health practitioners, policy makers, academics and researchers. The Congress encourages you to take this opportunity to present your work and discuss your ideas for improving population health.

Health Quality & Safety Commission - Partners in Care: Show and Tell – Take 2!
16-18 June 2014, Auckland and Christchurch
These free collaborative symposia, hosted by the Consumer Engagement team at the Health Quality & Safety Commission are designed for providers and consumers from across health and disability services to share their expertise, knowledge and approach to working together as partners in care.
Responding to feedback from attendees at the first symposium, they have added a two-hour workshop run by NZ-based experts in co-design, Hilary Boyd and Dr Lynne Maher. Add to this, consumer and provider speakers sharing their experiences working in partnership, and keynote international speaker and author Matthew Johnstone, and this is a day well worth attending.
These symposia are being held in Christchurch (16 June) and Auckland (18 June). For more information:

“How do we all raise the volume of the unheard voice?”

This year’s Health and Disability Commissioner’s National Disability Conference's theme will be on raising the volume of the unheard voice - the HDC is focusing on the rights of disabled people with high and complex needs who cannot easily speak up for themselves. They will be exploring how to encourage consumers, family members, friends, and advocates to speak up; learning about supported decision-making and advocacy; and sharing ideas about fostering disabled people’s choice and control when accessing services.

Statistics New Zealand - General Social Survey 2016 proposed content
Statistics New Zealand welcomes submissions on the proposals for content of the New Zealand General Social Survey (NZGSS) 2016.
Submissions close at 5pm on Friday 30 May.
Aged care workforce survey
The demand for an aged care workforce in New Zealand is predicted to increase significantly in the near and long term future. At the same time, pay and conditions for employees in the sector have come under scrutiny. While population demographics have been used to predict the supply and demand for aged care employees, there is little data about the current workforce in New Zealand. Furthermore, there are few, if any, opportunities for national benchmarking of workforce trends such as turnover, labour supply, training and wellbeing factors.
This project will survey both managers and employees in residential aged care and home care. It will ask for data on:
- Current employee demographics;
- Employment trends;
- Skills, qualifications and experience of employees;
- OHS data;
- Employee wellbeing; and
- Workload.
