GENERAL DUTIES - OVERVIEW:

  1. Responsible for answering incoming calls to the police and fire departments by way of internal telephone extensions, normal 7-digit telephone numbers and the 9-1-1 Emergency Phone system
  2. Collect pertinent information from callers and disseminate that information to responding units or agencies
  3. Determine the priority level of requests for services and mitigate those calls that can be handled without a need for committing department resources to a response
  4. Operate the radio systems for the police and fire departments, mutual aid support channels
  5. Maintain the CAD records of all responses and services provided by the police and fire departments
  6. Receive requests for other town services (water, sewer & electrical) after hours, on weekends and holidays and initiate the appropriate notifications
  7. Process all paperwork, data entry and alert notifications for all missing persons, stolen vehicles, arrested individuals, etc.
  8. Keep senior police and fire staff and town officials informed 24-hrs a day of noteworthy incidents and emergencies
  9. Responsible for greeting and providing services to visitors to the police station’s lobby
  10. Maintain personal and professional competence and awareness
  11. Other duties as assigned
  12. Reports to Safety Services Dispatch Supervisor, Police and Fire Command Staff

JOB STANDARDS (Minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job functions):

  1. Eyesight correctable to 20-20
  2. Hearing correctable to normal range and adequate for use on standard telephone
  3. Capable of speaking to individuals or large groups of English-speaking persons and being understood
  4. Capable of reading, understanding, and remembering information from printed or handwritten materials.
  5. Capable of calculating (addition, subtractions, multiplication, division, percentages, fractions, and other algebraic formulae) numbers and properly count U.S. currency and change
  6. Capable of writing, spelling, printing, and typing English to high degree of grammatical correctness to convey the correct idea or intention to the reader
  7. Capable of typing on typewriter and computer keyboard to adequately convey intended data or information to other English-speaking persons
  8. Work variety of shifts to support a 24/7 operation. Maintain punctual and regular attendance and also be willing to work under short notice as well as being on call.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING (Educational requirements, special license and any other certificates):

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
  2. Complete any required Dispatcher courses
  3. Valid Ohio Operator’s License
  4. U.S Citizen
  5. Ability to pass background and Psychological exams
