POSITION OVERVIEW

To work within the Cardiff Triathlon Performance Centre to develop performance athletes. To develop the Performance Centre to be a recognised British Performance Centre. To work with University of Cardiff and Cardiff Metropolitan University (and other institution partnerships which may be developed) to support the continued development of triathletes at all levels at these institutions. To lead the BUCS Triathlon Programme at the Universities. To work with the Welsh Triathlon Pathway Manager to create a seamless transition for athletes from region to performance centre in Wales and from the UK.

MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

·  To provide high quality coaching delivery for the CTPC

·  Lead the delivery of the BUCS programmes

·  Support the coaching team across the talent pathway by coaching at National Camps

·  To use your knowledge of performance profiling and analysis to structure athlete training programmes

·  To work with a team of support service providers to ensure athletes are prepared physically for training and competition

·  To act as the coach point of contact for our triathlon partners including British Triathlon, the Home Nations, and Sport Wales

·  To support professional staff to attract and recruit talented triathletes to the Cardiff Universities

·  To develop and implement a talent identification process including an open and transparent selection criteria for the Cardiff Triathlon Performance Centre

·  To oversee the trialling process for prospective athletes ensuring a fair and equitable process of selection

·  To provide a suitable training and competition schedule for centre athletes

·  To provide support at races for centre athletes, including International events as required

·  To work to support coaching delivery and individual athlete support across the performance centre pathway as required

·  To attend all required Performance Group meetings with Welsh Triathlon or British Triathlon

·  Commit to ongoing coach development of yourself on the British programme and support, as agreed with the Performance Pathway Manager, those coaches who assist in delivery of the National Academy programme

·  Attend necessary competitions commensurate with delivery of the role

·  Develop reporting tools for the performance centre

·  Communicate and report on performance centre progress using the provided reporting tools in a timely manner as required by the Executive Officer

·  Manage the Performance Centre budget reporting on a quarterly basis to the Executive Officer

·  Communicate and share athlete plans, progress and performances with Executive Officer, Performance Management Group and British Triathlon Pathway Manager, as requested

·  Engage in and support the National Academy Camp and Competition programme as required

·  To assist the Executive Officer in reporting to Sport Wales on contracted objectives and talent delivery

·  To work with the Performance Pathway Manager to set short and long term targets for the Performance Centre and National Academy

SUCCESS CRITERIA/MEASUREMENTS

·  Development of the universities triathlon programme

·  Number of athletes taking part in the BUCS triathlon competition programme

·  Number of individual and team medals achieved in the BUCS competition programme

·  Number of prospective athletes engaged with during UCAS process

·  Athlete robustness/health as evidenced by days lost to illness/injury

·  Stakeholder engagement

·  Financial sustainability of the Performance Centre

·  A commitment to better develop aspiring Coaches in Wales

Essential

·  Excellent communication skills – Communicates effectively, clearly and confidently in written, verbal and electronic forms

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

·  Excellent working knowledge of the sport of Triathlon

·  Sound knowledge of the development and creation of ideal learning environments for athletes

·  An understanding of the management and development of performance athletes

·  An understanding of the requirements of medal winning performance at World and Olympic level in Triathlon

·  An understanding of Long Term Athlete Development

·  An understanding of student sport

·  Significant experience in developing useful working partnerships with both sports and non-sports based organisations

·  Experience of leading or being part of a Triathlon team in international competition

·  Experience of managing an integrated athlete support system

·  Significant proven experience as a coach in triathlon

·  Experience of working with a wide range of staff including volunteers

Desirable

·  Knowledge and understanding of Sport Wales administration and funding

·  Experience of youth and junior international triathlon competition

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION SKILLS

Essential

·  Relevant Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience

·  Computer literate, including Office products, Windows, Databases

·  Strong written and oral presentation skills

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Essential

·  Able to work away from home as role may require occasional weekend working and irregular hours

·  In possession of a valid UK driving licence, with the use of a car (mileage allowance will be paid for business use)
