COURSE DESCRIPTION
The second year course introduces the students to additional manualand computerized accounting concepts and principles that pertainto partnerships and corporations. Students gain valuable leadershipand employment skills and receive opportunities for scholarships andcommunity involvement by participating in Future Business leadersof America (FBLA), a state and national career and technical studentorganization.
Note: Writing and math skills are incorporated in this course to help students reach proficiency on the standards measured by AIMS.
COURSE GOALS/OBJECTIVES
At completion of the course, the student will:
- Inventory planning and valuation.
- Accounting for uncollectible accounts.
- Account for plant assets.
- Evaluate leadership styles appropriate for the workplace.
- Demonstrate oral communication skills.
- Organizing a corporation and pay dividends.
- Acquiring additional capital for a corporation.
- Financial statement analysis and reports for a corporation.
- Explore economic principles of managerial accounting and related services professions.
- Participate in leadership and teamwork.
- Budgetary planning and control.
- Management decisions using cost-volume-profit analysis.
- Financial statements analysis.
- Demonstrate written communication skills.
- Apply mathematical processes to problems in accounting and related services.
- Develop an individual career plan.
- Prepare for employment.
- Demonstrate steps of the accounting cycle.
- Appraise forms of business ownership.
ATTENDANCE & TARDY POLICIES
Current school attendance (loss of credit may occur after accumulation of 12 absences per semester) and tardy policies will be followed.
TUTORING
Tutoring is open to all students during daily scheduled KKIS times, and all students are encouraged to attend. If a student is earning less than 60%, attendance is mandatory. KKIS is suggested for any students who have been absent, who need additional time to complete assignments, or who desire one-on-one tutoring with the teacher. Students will need to sign up for KKIS at least one day prior to date of requested KKIS tutoring.
MATERIALS
Please bring your student planner, school binder, a pen, pencil and notebook paper with you each class period.
CLASSROOMPROCEDURES
To assure each student has the best environment for learning, the following classroom guidelines have been established:
- Students will be required to participate and complete coursework in order to take assessments.
- When the tardy bell rings, be ready to work.
- The Internet will be used only for completion of class assignments and projects. Students will abide by school/district and teacher policies while on the Internet.
- Disciplinary problems will not be tolerated. Disruption of the class and/or deliberate misuse or abuse of the equipment may result in detention or referral to administration.
- Cheating will result in receiving a grade of 0 points for the assignment or test and referral to administration.
- Absolutely no food or drink will be allowed in the classroom. (Bottled water is allowed.)
- Before leaving class, make sure your work area is clean and neat.
- Use of personal radios, CD/tape/MP3 players during class is not permitted.
- Cell phones are not to be used in the classroom—this includes text messaging. Having your phone on your desk or in your hand is a good enough reason to have it taken away. Phones should never ring in the classroom! (Classroom telephones are not for student use.)
- Respect people and property.
INTERNET USAGE
Internet usage will be allowed only during selected class activities and can only occur with prior parent permission AND teacher approval. Use of the Internet during class lectures or unapproved times is NOT allowed. Inappropriate usage (e.g. Face Book, playing games during class time, accessing chat rooms, etc.) may result in a permanent loss of Internet privileges and/or possible removal from class.
GRADINGSYSTEM
The student’s grade at the end of each semester period will be based on the total number of points accumulated. The grade will be assigned based on the relationship of the student’s total points earned compared to the total points available.

The grading scale is as follows:
90 – 100%= A70 – 79%=C59 – 0 = F
80 – 89%=B60 – 69%=D
LATEWORK
Late work will be penalized. It is the student’s responsibility to turn in all assignments on time. Businesses do not tolerate missed deadlines. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain make-up assignments from the instructor.
COMMUNICATION
I feel communication with my students’ parents/guardians is extremely important for the students’ success. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns about your student. Parents/guardians will be notified of academic progress through grade reports approximately every three weeks of each term. I am happy to send a progress report home with your student at any time. Simply have your student ask for one in class. He/she can pick it up after school and hand deliver to you. Together we can make this a great year!
