All requests for tenured new hires must include a separate statement (Tenure Justification Statement) with the following information:

  1. A description of the fiscal and academic program plans for the unit in terms of long-range planning. Discussion should include, for example, the academic unit’s plans to strengthen a particular area in a discipline; to replace retirees in a discipline; to develop a new focus; to generate resources; to identify and initiate changes that will occur in the college/school; etc.;
  2. An explanation of how the personnel action fits into the unit’s plan;
  3. A statement of the specific merit of the candidate; and
  4. The unit’s tenure ratio

You must have your draft letter reviewed by Human Resources prior to submitting for signatures; please submit the letter for review via Cherwell ( for letter of offer review for faculty. After HR review, add your HR Consultant to the routing sheet at the end of this document and insert the HR and Academic Affairs signatures first in the approval queue.

Your initial academic year salary will be $Amount. In order to begin this tenured appointment at UCCS, you must relinquish your tenured position at name of candidate’s current university. You will undergo post-tenure review in academic year 2024/2025 and every five years thereafter.

The position to which you are appointed is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and as such, it is not eligible for overtime compensation.

For purposes of annual merit evaluation, your efforts and accomplishments will be assessed according to a workload formula of40% teaching, 40% research/creative work, and 20% service to the Department, University and profession.Your teaching load will be five 3-credit hour courses total during the fall and spring semesters. The particular course assignments will be determined by your department chair in consultation with you.By accepting this appointment, you agree to perform duties and responsibilities which are in the area of your expertise or academic interest, or are otherwise appropriate, and which are assigned to you consistent with your rights and responsibilities as a faculty member, and the policies and procedures of the University and of your academic unit.

Faculty Election to Defer Receipt of Salary Payment
