0402 “May we?” said the rabbit, the cat, the dog,
0403 the pig, the sheep, the chickens, the calf, and

0601 “All right,” said Mr. Gumpy. 5.______
0602 “But it will be a squash.” 6.______
0701 And they all piled in. 7.______
0801 “It’s a lovely day,” said Mr. Gumpy. “Let’s take 8______
0802 the old dirt road across the fields.” 9.______
1001 For a while they drove along happily. The sun 10.______
1002 shone, the engine chugged, and everyone was
1003 enjoying the ride. 11.______
1201 “I don’t like the look of those clouds. I think 12.______
1202 it’s going to rain,” said Mr. Gumpy. 13.______
1401 Very soon the dark clouds were right 14.______
1402 overhead. Mr. Gumpy stopped the car. 15.______
1403 He jumped out, put up the top, and down

1601 The road grew muddier and muddier,

1603 Mr. Gumpy looked at the hill ahead. 18.______
1604 “Some of you will have to get out and push,”

1806 “I’ve a bone in my trotter.” 29.______

1809 “Not me,” said the cat. “It would ruin my fur.” 32.______

1810 “Not me,” said the rabbit. “I’m not very well.” 34.______

2201 The car sank deeper into the mud. 41.______
2202 “Now we’re really stuck,” said Mr. Gumpy. 42.______

2401 They pushed and shoved and heaved and
2402 strained and gasped and slipped and
2403 slithered and squelched. 44.______
2404 Slowly the car began to move…. 45.______
2405 “Don’t stop!” cried Mr. Gumpy. “Keep it up! 46.______

2406 We’re nearly there.” 48.______
2407 Everyone gave a mighty heave --
2408 the tires gripped…. 49.______
2601 The car edged it’s way to the top of the hill. 50.______
2602 They looked up and saw that the sun

2604 It began to get hot. 52.______
2801 “We’ll drive home across the bridge,”
2802 said Mr. Gumpy. 53.______
2803 “Then you can go for a swim.” 54.______
2804 And they did. 55.______
2805 After a while it was time to go home. 56.______
3001 “Good-bye,” said Mr. Gumpy. 57.______
