THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIAD IN INFORMATICS

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ITALY

SEPTEMBER 23-30, 2012

Milan – Now that the curtain has fallen on the summer Olympics in London, the lights will shine in Sirmione and Montichiari (Italy) for the International Olympiad in Informatics. It's the first time that Italy organizes the IOI, from September 23 to 30, 2012.

Monday 24th September, inside the Centro Fiera of Montichiari (Bs), it will take place the Opening Cerimony. In the afternoon it will be a practice session that will be the only moment when journalists, photographer and camera-man will be allowed to enter the zone of the competition.

In this occasion the italian Minister of Education, University and Research Francesco Profumo will be present, and at 4.30 pm he will visit the Organization Committee and all the contestants.

IOI 2012 are organized by the italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, by the Regional Education Office of Lombardy and AICA, the Italian Association for Informatics and the Computerized Computation.

Also the Province of Brescia, the Municipalities of Sirmione and Montichiari, the Politecnico of Milan, Centro Fiera of Garda Lake and the Tecnical Institute Enrico Tosi are subjects involved in the organization of the event.

The President of the IOI 2012 Committee is Giuseppe Colosio, the Director of the Regional Education Office of Lombardy.

IOI are dedicated to the students of high school all over the world, and from 1989, when the first edition of the event took place in Bulgaria thanks to the organization of UNESCO, the event has grown in importance and partecipation.

For the italian edition of IOI, Unesco has accorded for the first time his official patronage to the event.

IOI 2012 are organized also with the patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano.
The Presidency of the Republic of Italy will bestow a medal to the winner of the competition.

The carrying-out of the event has been possibile also with the contribution of important sponsorship: Fondazione Cariplo, Norton by Symantec, Eni, SEA, Unicredit.
