JOB DESCRIPTION

STAFF MEMBER:

POSITION:Groundskeeper

TENURE:Permanent – 35 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Hours to be negotiated

RESPONSIBLE TO:(i)Business Manager

(ii)Caretaker

KEY ROLES

The Groundskeeper role is to assist the Caretaker and Business Manager in maintaining the environs of the school to the standard required by the Board of Trustees.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  1. Maintaining the recycling sytem that including bins, paper storage and recycling centres
  2. Helping to prepare areas for special events including cleaning, setting out furniture and marking of grounds
  3. Responsibility for repairs, storage, cleaning and setting out of the hall chairs
  4. Mowing of lawns and grass areas with the small tractor when required, also hand mow all small grass areas and ensure all edges are trimmed and tidy
  5. Carry out the litter collection in the school grounds and dispose of the litter appropriately.
  6. Carry out the daily collection of rubbish and empty all outside bins weekly
  7. Assist with care of gardens, including spraying when required, and leaf collection and disposing
  8. Maintain equipment (eg mowers) so that they are in safe working condition (maintenance log book kept)
  9. Irrigation and fertilising of lawns and fields
  10. Attend grounds & property meetings

GENERAL

  1. Ensure schedule of jobs are kept up-to-date as per the electronic database
  2. Carry out regular inspections of grounds and follow-up on outstanding maintenance
  3. Regularly inspect the school and equipment for potential hazards (safety) – and resolve identified hazards
  4. Carry out fire warden duties, if required
  5. Attend to security call-outs as required
  6. Operate theboilers in the absence of the caretaker

OTHER DUTIES

  • Other duties as may be agreed from time to time in consultation with the Caretaker, Business Manager and SLT
  • Attend professional development courses as required
  • Extra hours may be required to be worked from time to time for which payment will be made in accordance with the Collective Agreement

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND REVIEW

The Groundskeeper is expected to set professional goals, and participate in the Nayland College Professional Development Cycle.

PDC discussions with the theDeputy Principal will help identify strengths, highlight issues needing resolution and confirm professional goals. The Groundskeeper will undertake training identified as necessary.

Performance will be reviewed with respect to the effectiveness with which the key roles detailed in this job description are being performed.
