Dear Rising Ninth Grade Students/Parents,

Congratulations! You are on track to complete the world-recognized International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) Certificate. You have worked hard, taken advanced classes, and are now ready to make that next important step in your education – enrolling in Year IV at Paisley IB Magnet School!

Soon you will receive an assignment to your residential high school. To stay at Paisley for high school, you must complete an on-line magnet application between January 1 and January 15. Please note that we must limit enrollment to 60 students, so apply early.

As you know, students earning the “IB” credential are among the most competitive high school students in the nation. The IBMYP Certificate is the best preparation for the IB Diploma Program. Our IB students are the most heavily recruited by colleges and universities across the country, receiving an impressive number of scholarships. In addition to the scholastic challenge, our students enjoy

o  Most successful high school teachers in WSFCS for promoting student learning.

o  Classmates who care about their education.

o  100% of our students pass state and local tests.

Teachers who care about you and work together for your success.

o  WFU Partnership (e.g. WFU Library card, guest speakers, special events, drama coaches)

o  Youth and Government Club (YAG) (Voted most popular high school club in NC)

Leadership experiences through High School Student Council, YAG and Mock Trial

o  Quarterly day trips and overnight field trips (NYC, Washington, DC)

o  Athletics at your residential school (or Parkland with WSFCS waiver)

Extracurricular activities at Paisley, your residential high school or Parkland.

o  Opportunities to tutor middle school students, attend social events, and enjoy the outdoor picnic area in addition to the other privileges associated with being a WSFC high school student.

Completion of Years IV and V at Paisley shows college admission officers that you met a significant academic challenge. You continued developing critical thinking skills, prepared for college level academic rigor, and for leadership and community service. It means that you are confident and poised for your leadership and service destiny.

There are three upcoming opportunities for parents to learn more about Years IV/V. Forums are scheduled on Monday, December 10 at 8 AM and 9 AM and on Thursday, December 13 at 5 PM in the Media Center. Attend to explore this great opportunity your student has for the best education available.

Sincerely,

Gary Cone, EdD
