Guidelines for Candidates’ Use of Social Media
The Nominating and Leadership Development Committee (NLDC) understands that social media is a part of today’s means of communication and connection. The NLDC wants to assure that the professional image of AORN and candidates is maintained and that campaigning rules are followed while using social media.
The NLDC wants the best for the candidates in their journey into a leadership role. The intent of AORN is not to regulate your personal accounts. The NLDC has developed the following recommendations for social media use for national candidates. Any situation of social media use that could be viewed as campaigning will be brought to the attention of the NLDC. The NLDC will assess the situation and make a collaborative decision to determine whether the postings are view as campaigning. Our hope is to protect the candidates from perceptions that could jeopardize their election status.
Social Media is defined as, but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Snapchat, Bebo, Linkedin,Flickr, YouTube, Goggle +, Pinerest, Instagram, Email, Blogs, Yahoo, About Me,
Guidelines
The NLDC will request that you submit a list of all your social media sites.
· The candidate will be assigned an NLDC member to assist you in determining potential campaigning issues and will serve as a resource to any questionable posts on your social media sites.
· The NLDC recommends that you place your settings to private and remember that just because you have privacy settings it does not mean that no one else can see your posts.
· Do not accept people that you do not know to your site. Sometimes the intent of other members may be to investigate your status.
· Notify your friends and family regarding your AORN candidacy and the guidelines for campaigning.
· Monitor your social media pages daily to ensure no post could impact you candidacy.
Remember that being a national AORN candidate is an honor that must be taken seriously. The professional image of you as a candidate and AORN is your responsibility.
Thank you,
The Nominating and Leadership Development Committee
