GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING PORTFOLIOTO COMPETE AT THE STATE, REGIONAL & NATIONAL LEVELS.

Not necessary for Trade & Industrial Division Competition.

To assist nominees in putting together a portfolio, please be sure to observe the following recommendations:

1.Material to be contained in a three-ring binder

2.All material enclosed in plastic covers.

3.Total number of pages (plastic covers) not to exceed 20. This provides for a maximum of 40 surfaces (one insert on the front, and one insert on the back of each page). The portfolio should be organized according to the sections on the evaluation form.

4.Portfolio and application for continuing to the following competitions: State, ACTE Region IV and then to the ACTE National level should include:

ACTE Award Application Procedures:
Eachnominee must first compete in their state and Regional competitions prior to being considered for this award. Applicants should submit information written in the third-person context, rather than the first. All materials must be submitted electronically (Word or PDF).

Each nominee shall be evaluated on the following components:

  1. a) ACTE Excellence Awards Program Applicationsee ACTE website for official ACTE Application form at

b) ILS Awards need to see the applications from the website

  1. [Section A] Description of innovative and/or significant program(s) in community service work and inspiring peers and/or students to become involved in projects benefiting their community of no more than two pages.
  2. [Section B] Description of Career and Technical Education Membership and/or Affiliations of no more than one page.
  3. [Section C] Community Involvement (to include industry/business partnerships, community activities and/or contributions) of no more than one page.
  4. [Section D] Share a personal story of significance in career and technical education (500 words or less).
  5. [Section E] Interview by National Committee (in-person or virtual).
  6. Two Letters of support
  7. Supervisor
  8. Community Leader
  9. Photo. Digital photo should be at least 300 dpi, in .jpg format and separate attachment from dossier. (The photograph is used for publicity purposes only).

ACTE Information:

All procedures must be followed for an application to be considered. The completed materials should be submitted to theRegional Awards Committee Chairpersonno laterthan the dates indicated by the Region.

The interview [Section E] specifications will be provided to the Region Winners/ACTE National Nominees.

Check with your state and Region representative for application deadlines. State and Region competition information is listed on thestate/Regional page.

ILS Information:

All procedures must be followed for an application to be considered. The completed materials should be submitted tothe Sigma Chapter Secretary/Treasurer, Phillip McEndree prior to the designated date for consideration by the national awards committee. Format and information for the candidate’s portfolio should meet the same standards and criteria as the ACTE guidelines.
