Installing DB2 8.2 Personal Edition

  1. Unzip C:\Software\WIN_V822_PE_x86.zip in C:\Software\DB2.
  2. Launch C:\Software\DB2\PE\image\setup.exe

The Launchpad will appear

  1. Click Install Product
  2. On the Setupscreen, click Next.
  3. The Installshield Wizard will launch.

  1. On the Welcome to the DB2 setup wizard page, click Next.
  2. On the License Agreement screen, select I accepts the terms in the license agreement and click Next.
  3. On the Select the installation type screen, make sure Typical is selected and click Next.
  4. On the Select installation folderscreen, accept the defaults (which should be the same as the screen below) and click Next.

  1. On the Set user information for the DB2 Administration Serverscreen, set the User name and Password (and Confirm Password) fields to wasadmin

  1. Click Next.
  2. On the Set up the administration contact list screen, click Next.
  3. A Warning screen will appear, stating that no Notification SMTP server has been specified. This is fine; click OK.
  4. On the Configure DB2 instances screen, click Next.
  5. On the Prepare the DB2 tools catalog screen, select Do not prepare the DB2 tools catalog on this computer if it is not already selected. Click Next.
  6. On the Specify a contact for health monitor notification screen, select Defer the task until after installation is complete and click Next.
  7. On the Start copying files screen, click Install.

The installation will begin. Wait for it to complete.

  1. Eventually, the Setup is complete screen will appear. Click Finish.
  2. TheFirst Steps window should have opened automatically. Wait a moment, and the DB2 Product Updates dialog will appear.

  1. Click No.
  2. Restart the computer and login as wasadmin.

Note. You must start the computer to guarantee a successful creation of the database in the following steps. Not restarting the computer can create problems during the labs.

  1. From the Start menu, select All Programs > IBM DB2 > Set-up Tools > First Steps.

The First Steps screen appears.

  1. On the left pane, click Create Sample Database
  2. The First Steps – Create Sample Databases window will appear.
  1. Check DB2 UDB Sample
  2. Click OK.

The SAMPLE database will be created and will take a few moments to complete.

Eventually, the database will be created.

  1. Click OK.
  2. From the left menu, select Exit First Steps.

DB2 has been installed!
