JOB TITLE:HIV and AIDS Counselor / DESIGNATION:Counsellor / REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

JOB MISSION / PURPOSE:
To conduct confidential HIV and Aids pre and post-test counselling for both on-site and off-site with the best practices for HIV and Aids counselling and ensure access to HIV services optimally by clients.
KEY FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS
Strategic Direction
  1. Planning,coordinatingand implementiongHIV activities at the program as planned.
Stakeholder management
  1. Managing the partnership with AIC to facilitate VCT at the program office and in the refugee communities as planned.
  2. Networking with public and private health service providers for access to services by our persons of concern.
Process Management.
  1. Supporting Refugees access prophylaxis treatment to the identified people exposed to HIV.
  2. Providing nutritional support to refugees with low CD4 count as planned in the program activities.
  3. Organizing and coordinating CD4 count tests for refugees living with HIV.
  4. Mobilizing and sensitize refugees in refugee communities on eMTCT and HIV with its effects.
  5. Conduct daily HCT services at the program office and refugee community outreaches for VCT to enable refugees to access HIV services.
  6. Liaising with the lab technician to carryout daily HIV testing services at the programme offices.
  7. Working with the Peer Educators to mobilize refugees to access HIV services.
  8. Participating in the development of proposals geared towards the support of Persons of Concern living with HIV/AIDS
  9. Supporting the formation of refugee community posttest clubs at the community level
  10. Compiling weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and specific activity reports and ensure timely submission
11.Documenting the best practices implemented, success stories and case studies of the community level changes for dissemination and learning
Support To Staff & Other Managers
  1. Providing support to the health unit in line with support to HIV patients.
Departmental Administration
  1. Preparing requisitions for all financial transactions i.e. requisitions for money, drugs, and subsistence allowances and ensure timely accountability for HIV clients.
Risk Management
  1. Identifying, assessing and developing strategies to mitigate against risks that may happen in the section.
Compliance
  1. Complyingwith policies and procedures during the implementation of the activities.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
  • Degree or Diploma in Medical/Health, Social work, Social Sciences, Counselling, Psychology or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
  • Additional post graduate training in HIV/AIDS Counselling is desirable
  • A minimum of Two Years’ relevant work experience in counselling related to HIV and AIDS
  • Should be a good listener
  • Good Interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good report writing skills
