TITLE:Home Visitor, Parent Child Home Program
Pittsfield and North Adams offices
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Parent Child Home Program is a home-based parenting and early literacy program designed to strengthen verbal interaction and educational play between parents and their preschool children who are challenged by poverty, low levels of education, language barriers, etc. The philosophy of the program is that the parent is the first teacher of young children. The program services provide parent education in the home to support the important role of nurturing growth and development. The vision for the communities in Berkshire County is that all families will receive support and education to best nurture their young children and to help children develop within a healthy family and community; this program furthers this vision and implements the Strengthening Families philosophy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Parent-Child Home Program Home Visitor must have a high school diploma or a GED with
experience working with young children and families. Other qualifications must include the
ability to establish and maintain supportive, non-judgmental rapport with both adults and children; the ability to demonstrate playful interactions with children; positive attitudes toward young children, parenting and books; the ability to plan, with supervision, play materials and activities in the family's home; theability to document visits legibly and accurately; and must be able to maintain confidentiality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules two visits per family each week during the school calendar year.
- Must provide own transportation.
- Must be flexible. Home visits are scheduled for the family's convenience.
- Models and emphasizes verbal interaction using carefully chosen books and toys.
- Maintains record of visits and statistics as directed by the Coordinator.
- Supplies books and toys to the families.
- Keeps abreast of current trends in early childhood education, including child
development techniques to promote literacy and parent education. - Attends weekly two hour staff meetings/supervisions.
SALARY/WORK YEAR:
The position is part time, 25 weeks per year following the school calendar. We are seeking Home Visitors for our North Adams and Pittsfield programs serving those cities and surrounding communities.
25-30 hours per week (caseload of 6 -10 families) at $12 -$14 per hour. Home visits are scheduled at the convenience of the families. Late afternoon work is required to fulfill home visits and to attend community events.
