Course Description:

Since this course is on a trimester, we have a very short time together-just 26 class days. The main focus of this class will be entrepreneurship-the ins and outs of running a business, FFA, and wood shop. Students in this class will be responsible for running the middle school concessions as an outreach of our entrepreneur section of our curriculum. Each student will need to schedule to work concessions one time during the trimester as a real world practicum in handeling money. We will also investigate other avenues of income for our projects made in class and opportunities to market them in the community.

Required Supplies:

Folder or binder to keep all classroom handouts in

Black or blue pen

Lined paper

Class Rules:

1. RESPECT

2. The FFA Code of Ethics will be followed

PowerSchool Grades:

I will keep two gradebooks for this class-one hard copy in my office and one in powerschool. All three Exploratory classes share a gradebook and thus need to grade in the same manner. In PowerSchool, each student has the opportunity to earn 10 points each week. All grades earned during each week will be added together and averaged. So if a student earned 90% for total work during the week, a 9 out of 10 will be entered into PowerSchool for his/her weekly grade.

Organization:

What is FFA? FFA is a dynamic youth organization within agriculture education that changes lives and prepares students for premier leadership, personal growth and career success. Because FFA and Agriculture Education are designed to work together to build tomorrow's leaders, we will cover information about it in the classroom and it will be part of your grade. Life skills like communication, team work, and work ethic are learned through FFA activities.

FFA is a great organization that has lots of traditions in Thermopolis. We are following those traditions and hope to add some more. This is the first opportunity we have to expand the Thermopolis FFA to both 7th and 8th graders and I’d like to take some of the students to our state FFA convention in April. I am excited to have the opportunity to share this journey with our students and introduce them to all the opportunities FFA has to offer.

FYI: This class is set up so you will learn the information and receive a good grade. If you choose not to participate in class or do any of the work that is assigned, your grade will reflect it!

GOOD LUCK!! I am very excited to start this semester and school year. I hope that it is fun and rewarding for everyone. Let’s build up a successful FFA chapter!
