September 27, 2010 – LEGO FLL Team Reports
FLL Team Name: ibotS Coaches: Stacy Thompson & Chris Coning
Team Roster: Drew Thompson, Ladia Coning, Ethan Puthoff, Max Coning, Brandon Spears,
Wills Kirchner
The team is working on refining its robot chassis and getting missions worked out. We first picked to do research on the eye. After much research we voted on researching Corneal Transplants. Right now we are getting eye doctors lined up to talk. Dr. Koch offered to do an pig's eyeball dissection. Next week we talk to Dan Brackman, Digital Media Creator from Ginghamsburg Church. He will talk to the team about how to make good presentations to get information across to people.
We get better working as a team every meeting we have. It is a challenge to bring
different personalities together, but we are working on finding unique ways to use each
person's strengths to fill a role. Fun Facts about our team: 5th & 6th graders, 5 boys & 1 girl
We like to play the team games.

FLL Team Name: Tipp Technobots Coaches: Kim Garber, Cindy Dix & Kelly Carner
Team Roster: Alissa Buynak, Zach Carner, Zachary Dix, Matthew Garber, Marissa Garber
Our FLL team has gotten off to a great start. We have spent time doing team building
activities and have had fun trying to form a square with rope blindfolded and making a
tower out of newspaper and tape to support an egg. The kids are learning to communicate
and take on leadership roles. We have narrowed our research topic down to three. We have our table built, have worked on programming, and have studied our missions inside and out. We have brainstormed different ways to attack each of them and are getting ready to build our robot.
The first picture is our entire team working on a teamwork activity. They are Alissa Buynak, Zach Carner, Zach Dix, Matthew and Marissa Garber. The second picture is Zach Carner and Matthew Garber. The third picture is Alissa Buynak, Zach Dix, and Marissa Garber. These two are model building.
FLL Team Name: The Rolling Bones Coaches: Brian & Jenny Oskey
Team Roster: Logan Oskey, Ian Stewart, Alyssa Stewart, Colin Achterberg, Bryce McCullough, Michael Pfister
The Rolling Bones are a young but energetic team whose thirst for knowledge is very encouraging and fun to watch. Robotics and Lego Mindstorms NXT are new concepts to everyone on the team so we have been climbing a steep learning curve. Each meeting has focused on a new engineering concept such as learning how a specific sensor or motor works...with a little math mixed in :). The kids understand now why we have neither the time nor the resources to make our robot "transform". We then applied these concepts to a specific mission by developing engineering prototypes which we quickly threw together and programmed. So now that we understand some basics, we are contemplating our strategy and design. Recently, our chassis team began their design while the accessory teams have developed several components which will be integrated over the next couple of meetings. The programming has been done as a group thus far with each team member getting a chance to use the NXT software. We have also dedicated time during each meeting towards team building activities. These activities required both mental and physical challenges some of which were performed blindfolded! And of course, we can't forget "gracious professionalism" which is now deeply instilled into their every thought and action. The Rolling Bones are an up and coming force to be reckoned with as they are ready to rock-n-roll the Body Forward challenge.
Jr. FLLTeam Name: Broadway Bobcats Coaches: Kelly Carner & Rebecca Schinaman
Team Roster: Alex Carner, Maddie Carner, Walker Schinaman, Kate Schinaman, Dustin Flatter, Nolan Mader, Noah Nesbitt
We had our first meeting this Tuesday. We went over the Core Values of Jr.FLL and talked
about how we should treat each other throughout our season. We started with some team
building and get to know you activities. We unravelled a large rope and we played a
copycat game. We then began our Serious Play Lego challenges. Then I introduced the
challenge for this season. We brainstormed all the different body parts we could think
of and read a book about the Human Body. We will pick up next week with looking at tools
that have been developed to help different body parts function and also will begin
looking at simple machines.
