Job Role Description: / Volunteer Youth Worker
Volunteering Role
Job Purpose: / Working within the Christian ethos and aims of the YMCA, to provide quality activities to children in andfor the benefit of the Glenrothes(and Fife) communities
Responsible to: / YMCA staff Glenrothes
Responsible for: / Children, young adults (please refer to key duties and responsibilities)
Location / YMCA Glenrothes Headquarters – North Street Glenrothes
and occasionally locations in Glenrothes and Fife (excursions)
Key Duties and Responsibilities: / Youth Work
  1. To develop open, honest and trusting relationships with children and young people.
  2. To encourage children and young people to learn from their youth club experience and other experiences and to help provide opportunities for growth and development.
  3. To help young people to address some of the issues which affect their lives through planned learning experiences and opportunities.
  4. To ensure that all health and safety procedures and child protection procedures are adhered to.
  5. To support the youth club by promoting, fund-raising events and by ensuring that all tasks are being handled responsibly.
  6. To operate in accordance with YMCA Glenrothes’s guidelines, policies and procedures.
  7. To undertake training required for the post and show commitment to the employee development process.
Additionally:
  1. To Support the YMCA Glenrothesstaff Team in creating a supportive and participatory working environment.
  2. Be accountable for designated resources and for reporting on defects for any YMCA Glenrothes equipment/materials/premises.

QUALIFICATIONS: / Youth Work qualification
Community Learning and Development qualification
EXPERIENCE: / Experience of issue based work
Experience of using own initiative in service delivery
Experience of delivery of sessional delivery to young people. / Multi-agency working.
Experience working within the voluntary sector.
ABILITIES/
SKIILLS: / Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to contribute to the on-going development of programmes
Understanding of youth worker roles and responsibilities and boundaries.
Proven ability to build rapport with young people / Understanding of drug and alcohol issues.
Understanding of youth issues
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: / Flexible working
