Lesson Title:Complete or Incomplete – That is the Question!
Time Required: 30-35minutes

Activity Statements:
- Option One: Counselor will engage in a conversation between 2 puppets. Each puppetwould have identical worksheets, but one would be neat, complete and following directions,while the other one is crumpled, no name, missing answers, etc. Puppets should comparepapers talking about high points, differences, and why one is better/more appropriate thanthe other.
- Option Two: Counselor can bring in two mock assignments: one that is neat, complete andfollows directions; the second one would be crumpled, no name, missing answers, etc.
Materials:
- 2 puppets (optional)
- Get 2 different blank worksheets from the classroom teacher. For the first worksheet, counselorshould make one copy neat, complete, and following all directions. Make a second copy of thesame worksheet messy, crumpled, incomplete, no name, not following directions.
- For the second blank worksheet, counselor should make 4-5 copies, and make each onedifferent, yet still exhibiting poor completion/work habits. These will be used for group workin the activity.
NO ACTUAL STUDENT WORK SHOULD BE USED!
Procedures:
Instructor Procedures / Student Involvement1. Ahead of time, counselor should consultwith the teacher to find out the specifics ofwhat s/he requires as components for a well-doneassignment (e.g. name at top, date,
neat, follows directions, all questions
answered, etc.)
2. Counselor will ask the group: How arethese two assignments alike and different?
3. Counselor will write the student generated components of a complete, well-doneassignment on a board or easel.
4. What work habits help in making sure thatwork is complete and well done? Give me athumbs up/thumbs down if you think thefollowing work habits would be helpful ornot in completing work well? (following
directions/listening/getting along with
others/talking to someone while the teacheris giving directions/wandering around theroom/having a pencil/yelling out, etc.)
5. Divide students into 4-5 groups, giving eachgroup one of the poorly done assignmentsdescribed above. Each group is to identifythe areas that need improvement forcompletion of the work.
6. Each group will report its findings to the restof the class.
7. Counselor will compliment the class on ajob well done, emphasizing the positivework habits that they used in the activity. / 1. N/A
2. Students will respond identifying elementsof complete and incomplete assignments(see #1).

4. Students will listen to each work habit andgive a thumbs up/thumbs down.
5. Students will work together,
cooperatively, to complete the activity. (2-3 minutes)
6. Each group reports findings; the otherstudents/groups listen.
7. Students sit quietly, ready for their nextactivity.
