JOB DESCRIPTION

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

JOB TITLE: Social Worker

REPORTS TO: Principal

Job Goal:

To provide our students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become life-long learners and responsible citizens by providing services to students and families which strengthen home/school/community relationships and alleviate barriers to learning.

Minimum Qualifications:

·  Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) desired or equivalent professional social work degree from an accredited school

·  Arizona State Social Worker license

·  One year of successful social work experience or one year of field instruction in a school system, or six semester hours of acceptable coursework

·  Knowledge of school, district and community resources available for students and families

·  Valid driver’s license and ability to make home visits

Core Job Functions

·  Acts as a liaison between family, school and community agencies

·  Conducts home visits and gathers information relevant to a child's educational, social, emotional and physical development

·  Identifies cultural, ethnic, financial, physical and emotional challenges which might constitute a reason for learning failure and provide support to alleviate barriers

·  Consults with school personnel regarding problems affecting the student’s academic progress, behavior, and personal well-being

·  Provides interventions to students and their families during crisis

·  Assists with the upkeep and disbursement of clothing//shoes/hygiene items

·  May provide individual and group counseling

·  May provide transportation for parents and students with approval of the supervisor

·  Attends and participates in meetings which may occur beyond the staff’s normally scheduled work day

·  Makes referrals for students and parents to appropriate resources

·  Maintains accurate records for compliance with district, federal and state regulations

·  May maintain Medicaid logs to document student services

·  Plans, conducts and/or participates in in-service activities

·  Performs other related duties as assigned

·  Performs all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed
