PART TIME DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN &YOUTH MINISTRY POSITION AVAILABLE
PURPOSE
Waynesville United Methodist Church is looking for a part time Children & Youth Director to serve the youth (Birth-Grade 12) at our church. This person must be committed to serving Jesus Christ, have a deep love for youth and a desire to see them nurtured in their faith. This person should have a desire to partner with other adults in Waynesville United Methodist Church. They should exhibit good administrative and organizational skills, excellent people skills, be a team player, and have the ability to take initiative and work independently. Though this person has primary responsibilities for working with youth, they also must exhibit strong skills in working with adults. This person should have experience working with youth and, after a brief period of training, be able to substitute teach in a classroom at any age level.Interested applicants should send resume and completed application (page 3) to Pastor Jason Sharp, .
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Children & Youth Director will develop and implement a comprehensive, Bible-based program of discipleship/spiritual formation for the youth of our church and assist in their spiritual growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Confessed and committed disciple of Jesus Christ
- Successful experience working with young people
- Willingness to attend a Safe Sanctuary training as a requirement of the United Methodist Church for anyone working with youth and submit to a criminal background check
- Demonstrated ability to work creatively and collaboratively with others and be able to form and oversee a complete team of workers
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in youth ministry with responsibilities for organizing and planning
Accountability: The Youth Director will report directly to the Pastor and be accountable to the CORE team.
Time Requirements: This position entails, on average, 20 hours per week, which may include up to three hours on Sunday mornings for participation in the education hour and worship time. The number of hours may vary depending on seasonal and program demands. This is an FLSA-Exempt position.
RESPONSIBILITES
- Recruit/develop/train/equip/resource, and encourage leadership team and classroom volunteers for implementation of all student ministry goals
- Oversee all regular classroom activities from Birth-12th Grade, including curriculum, room setup, and weekly supplies.
- Direct responsibility for the development and implementation of a weekly “youth” (6th-12th grade) discipleship program in conjunction with support from student ministry team.
- Ensure safe and secure environment for youth and volunteers at all times through implementation of Safe Sanctuary policy.
- Develop and implement other special activities for all age levels (examples: Easter Eggstravagnza, Pumpkin Party, Happy Birthday Jesus, 30 Hr Famine, Mission Trips and Experiences)
- Encourage participation in connectional spiritual formation (district / conference events, Chrysalis)
- Regularly communicate with volunteers and congregation to share vision, lesson plans, and needed information for youth ministry activities.
- Edit and implement curriculum strategy for all classrooms
- Serve on Sunday mornings as staff representative and assist in Sunday morning tasks (guest assignments, volunteer placement, and emergency situations).
- Maintain attendance records and other participant information that strengthens the ministry's pursuit of the overall objectives
- Set a positive example for others by living as an authentic witness of Christ and by being thoroughly involved in the life and ministry of the church.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITES
- Attend regularly and specially called staff meetings
- Prepare, submit, and administer a youth budget and annual goals for the church fiscal year in consultation with the ministerial staff and CORE team.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual summary report of the mission, goals, plans and successes in youth ministry to the CORE team
- Conduct the ministry in compliance with the WUMC Safe Sanctuary policies.
