Class Website:

I update the class website on a regular basis. Please use this as a resource to check missing assignments and get copies of things that you either missed in class or misplaced. All classwork and homework assignments will be posted on the website regularly. Please do not ask me what work you missed when you were absent without first checking the class website.

Interims/Progress Reports

At Knightdale High School this year, interims will be sent out at least twice for each class before each report card. Ideally, this will occur every 3 weeks. However, parents can monitor a student’s progress in this class by emailing me, or by checking SPAN, the Student/Parent Access Network. If parents choose to email me, I can email a copy of a student’s progress report and answer any questions or concerns that may arise at any point during the semester.

Absences and Make-Up Work

It is YOUR responsibility to make up work missed, including tests, when you are absent. I will do everything that I can to help you get work turned in, but it is ultimately up to you to make sure it is completed. Work that is assigned before you are absent should be turned in the day you return. Tests that are assigned before you are absent should be made up the day you return.JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE ABSENT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN YOU ARE EXEMPT!!!

Extra handouts and assignments will be stored by date in the folders assigned for your class. Please consult these folders before you come to me. Do not ask me for your assignments during class! I cannot focus on what you missed and continue to teach the rest of the class.

Late Work (Approved January 2013)

  • No assignment will be accepted more than 3 school days after its original due date.
  • If a student is absent, they will have 3 days for each consecutive day missed to make up missing work. (For example, if a student is absent for 2 school days in a row, they have 6 days to make up work from the days absent. However, this does not entitle them to extra time to submit assignments given on days after they returned to school.)
  • The 3 day grace period refers to 3 school days.
  • It is the students’ responsibility to track which assignments are late or missing. If they are unsure they may check SPAN and pbworks, and then approach me with questions.

Discipline Policies and Behavior Contract

Every student has the right to an education and every student has the right to a safe and orderly learning environment. Therefore, any behavior that interferes with the rights of others will not be tolerated. It is imperative that students adhere to the following rules while in class.

Knightdale High School Discipline Policy

At Knightdale High School, we follow the 3-strikes policy in the classroom. Students receive warnings for the first 2 disruptions. If students are then involved in a 3rd disruption, the teacher calls the ISD room to have an administrator come and remove the student from class. Any student who is involved in a severe disruption or infraction will be removed from class immediately.

Ms. Gay’s Classroom Rules

The following classroom rules are very simple and easy to follow. These rules are in place to make sure that every student receives a quality education in a safe and orderly learning environment. Any violation of any of these rules at any time during the class period will result in a warning. A student will be removed from class after the 3rd violation.

  1. No talking out of turn without permission at any time during the class period.

This includes:

  1. No cussing or inappropriate/offensive language at any time.
  2. No interrupting the teacher or classmates while they have permission to speak.
  3. No off-subject or side conversations at any time.
  1. No getting out of your seat without permission at any time during the class period.

This includes:

  1. Throwing away trash during a lesson or activity.
  2. Sharpening your pencil during a lesson or activity.
  3. Going to the bathroom or water fountain.
  1. No electronic devices of any kind are allowed in the classroom at any time.
  2. One request and one request ONLY will be made to hand over the device.
  3. If the device is handed over after the first request, the device will be secured by the teacher and then turned in to the office. A parent will have to come to the school to retrieve the device.
  4. If the device is NOT handed over after the first request, an administrator will be called to the classroom to take further action.

*SEVERITY CLAUSE: Any severe disruption or infraction will result in immediate removal from class.
