RELEASE OF THE FIRST ISSUE OF ALESDE’S JOURNAL
After the call for papers have been published at the beginning of the year, we received a significant number of contributions that were evaluated by our editorial team of great academic and international relevance. At this moment the articles are going through the final revision for the first issue of the Journal of ALESDE is released in September, 2011, during the ALAS 2011 Conference, at Recife/Brazil. This first issue will be composed by papers of invited professor in three languages (Portuguese, English and Spanish) and by the contributions of other researchers. We invite our members to be part of the ALESDE’s Journal. Sign up in your website as authors or editors, if you will. The papers submitted until October 30th will be evaluated to our next issue, to be released in March 2012.
ALESDE IN ISSA 2011
Between 10 and 17 July 2011 was held in Havana/Cuba the International Sociology of Sport Association (ISSA) Congress. The event had a great Latin-American representation and had twenty Work Groups in different areas of knowledge, connected to the Congress theme: “Sport and the winds of change: past, present, futures”. Beside the scientific program of conferences and papers presentations, were performed workshops and visits to community action programs developed in Cuba. During the event was realized the release of the 3rd ALESDE’s meeting, to be held at Universidad de Concepción/Chile, in October 2012. The theme of this third meeting will be “Sport and Physical Activity in the Process of Latin-American Integration”. The 4th ALESDE’s meeting will be held in Bogotá/Colombia. ALAS’ 2011 PROGRAMMING
The ALAS 2011 congress is coming! After the pre-ALAS be held in seven Latin-American countries, promoting the discussion of themes related to Sociology, it is time to gather all the researchers to the XXVIII edition of the International Congress of the Latin American Sociology, which will be held at Recife, between 6 and 11 September 2011. With twenty seven Work Groups, including the WG 23 - “Sport Sociology, Leisure and Free Time” - the congress has as a theme the “Open Borders of Latin America”. The event will count on the participation of seven internationally known speakers of Latin America, forty eight sessions and twenty three forums. This edition will celebrate the 60th year of the Association, which continues to be the pioneer in the development of Latin-American critical thinking in its social aspects. CALL FOR PAPERS TO THE NASSS CONFERENCE 2011
It is open the call for papers to the 32nd edition of the Annual Conference of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS). The event will occur between November 2nd and November 5th, at Minneapolis Marriot City Center/ Minnesota (USA). The theme of the event is “Revolutionizing Sporting Bodies: Technologies in Practice”. As a multidisciplinary event, the conference will gather researchers around the world, which will discuss various research objects from the theoretical references of Sport Sociology. The abstracts can be sent to the e-mail until August 1st, 2011. The abstract submitting procedure is available at “Call for Papers” in NASSS website. RELEASE OF THE BOOK “ESSAYS IN SPORT SOCIOLOGY”
In September 1st 2011 will be released the book “Essays in Sport Sociology”. As a result of ten years of work, the book represents the master’s thesis of fifteen authors, advised by Prof. Dr. Wanderley Marchi Júnior. These researches were realized at the Post Graduation Programs in Physical Education and Sociology, of Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR). The book highlight a generation of researchers that developed various themes of study connected to the Sport Sociology area in four main lines: Theoretical Perspectives of Sport Sociology, Sport and State, Sport and Social Groups and Sport Spectacle. The fifteen chapters of the book will bring the following discussions:
The methodological reflexivity of Pierre Bourdieu as an heuristic model for reading sport in Brazil - potential and contributions;
The mapping of the scientific production about Sport Sociology in Brazil;
State and Sport: an approach of the Brazilian university sports;
Sport at SESI;
Policies for Sport and the governmental choices;
The financing of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and its relations to the politics in Brazil;
Referees and violence in Brazil;
Leisure in the social and recreational clubs: the constitution of practices and social representations;
The masters basketball of Paraná: the creation of groups and social institutions;
Spectacularization of Beach volleyball;
Sports journalism: a sociological analysis of the Athens Section 2004 of the newspaper Folha de São Paulo;
The incursion of professionalism in Brazilian women's volleyball (1970-1985);
The Rexona women’s volleyball business club (1997-2003);
The professionalization of Taekwondo: the conception process of a modern martial art;
Communication through television: actions and dispositions in the sports television journalism;
