Understanding theTimeCommitment and the Phase System

Time Commitment

We know that your time at Rehoboth Ranch will probably be very different than you are used to. We know that you will need a period of adjustment and transition. We also know that if you do not have a firm commitment to finishing this program, you will be very tempted to give up, to quit, to think that these personal and life-style changes are too difficult.

Therefore, in order to be admitted to Rehoboth Ranch Ministries, we require you to make an open-ended time commitment to the program. You may definitely plan on being involved with the program for at least 6 months, but it is likely that staff could recommend a longer period of time depending on your level of need, the degree of your problems, and the situation you are moving back into. If you are unable to sign this commitment, you should probably reevaluate your application to our home until you are able to make such a commitment. We need to know that your commitment to growing and changing is as strong as ours.

Many men will find that about 6 months is all they need to get back on their feet, to handle problems effectively, and to have true hope for their future. However, there will be times that we recommend that a man stays a little longer to more completely deal with his issues. Please be assured that we will neither give up on you nor keep you at Rehoboth Ranch Ministries forever. Our goal is the same as yours – to get you the help you need to deal with your problems in a way that brings lasting change and benefit to you and glory toGod.

Staff will not even begin to estimate how long you will need to be at Rehoboth Ranch until at least 4 months have passed with you in the program. When the time comes to determine time frames, staff will seek your opinion, but, in the end, staff makes the final decision about how long a resident remains in the program. Our goal is that you deal with problems sufficiently and thoroughly, so that getting future help in additional programs is not something you have to face. We want you to deal with problems as deeply as needed to be able to move forward in the future knowing how to live in a way that glorifies God and to handle whatever life situation you must face effectively and victoriously.

The Phase System

Rehoboth Ranch Ministries operates on a Phase System. We understand that you will need intensive help when first arriving to the program, but our goal is that you gain independence and increase personal decision-making the longer you are here, resulting in confidence and stability prior to graduation.

During Phase One you will participate in the general program schedule without exceptions, going from one activity to the next with the majority of the other residents residing at Rehoboth Ranch. Residents in Phase One are supervised in all circumstances and do not generally make decisions about their schedule. To progress to the next Phase, a resident must meet objective goals, have completed the entire Phase One Individually Tailored Curriculum Plan satisfactorily, responded well and been actively involved and progressing in counseling, and must be stable enough to not need constant staff supervision. Generally, Phase One lasts approximately 6 months, but this depends upon the efforts of the resident.

In Phase Two, residents are given the freedom to begin making more decisions for themselves and will also begin spending time during the day away from the Rehoboth Ranch house, either working, looking for work, or receiving an education. Phase Two is designed to begin giving freedom back to the residents with high accountability from staff in order to begin practicing what has been learned during Phase One. The point of Phase Two is to allow the resident to be exposed to real life experiences and have the opportunities to handle them well while still living at Rehoboth Ranch and having unrestricted access to staff for additional help and advice. Residents usually spend 2-6 months in Phase Two. There is a minimum requirement of 2 months, but the length of time in Phase Two depends on the recommendation of the counselor and the progress of the individual resident. Residents are encouraged to proceed to Phase Three when they have satisfactorily completed the Phase Two Individually Tailored Curriculum Plan, are very stable in counseling and are regularly handling problems on their own without counselor / staff assistance, are stable enough to not need intensive staff interaction or supervision in their life, and are confident that they can maintain the changes made while at Rehoboth Ranch in their home environment.

In Phase Three, residents no longer live at Rehoboth Ranch but are still participating in the program through weekly counseling (by a staff-approved counselor) and individualized accountability. Phase Three was designed to allow the residents to become solid, stable, and confident applying all they have learned at Rehoboth Ranch in real life contexts back in their home environment to ensure that the change that has occurred is real and lasting. Residents generally spend 3-6 months in Phase Three. There is a minimum requirement of 2 months, but the length of time in Phase Three depends on the recommendation of the counselor and the progress of the individual resident. After a resident’s counselor is satisfied that sustainable change has occurred, the presentation problems have been satisfactorily dealt with, and the resident is stable in their home environment, he will recommend the resident for graduation from the program.
