Cargo tonnage for the fourth quarter of FY12 was 354,165 metric tons. This was an increase of 57,092 MT, or over 19 percent above the fourth quarter of FY11. Imports of sand and aggregates from British Columbia, Canada were 76,774 MT more than in 4th quarter of FY11. Exports of shredded scrap metal were 47,875 MT less than in FY11. Compared to the FY12 Port Budget, the fourth quarter tonnage was 116,165 MT more than budget, or nearly 49 percent.
Nineteen vessels (11 ships and 8 barges) made calls during the fourth quarter of FY12 compared to 14 vessels (11 ships and 3 barges) during the fourth quarter of FY11. Ten vessels (9 ships and 1 barge) were projected in the FY12 Budget to call at the Port in the fourth quarter.
Total tonnage for all commodities for all of FY12 was 1,319,198 MT. This was an increase of 447,258 MT, or over 51 percent more than all of FY11 (871,940 MT). Approximate percentage breakdowns by commodities: imported sand 33%, imported aggregates 31%, exported scrap metal 24%; imported gypsum 5%; imported bauxite 4%, domestic sand 2%; and imported fly ash 1%. Compared to the FY12 Budget, the total tonnage was 499,198 MT more than budget, or over 60%.
There were no imports of cement during FY12 and no cement is expected for the entire FY13. In contrast, Cemex Aggregates imported 844,370 MT of sand and aggregates during FY12, and was 498,425 MT, or 244% more than in FY11. This was an all-time annual high for Cemex Aggregates imports, compared to 590,645 MT in FY08. Exported shredded scrap metal during FY12 were 132,886 MT, or nearly 30%, less than FY11.
Seventy-four vessels (48 ships and 26 barges) made calls during FY12 compared to forty-seven vessels (36 ships and 11 barges) during FY11. Forty-one vessels (30 ships and 11 barges) were projected in the FY12 Budget to call at the Port.
