2013 summer beach project

INFORMATION SHEET

WHAT IS THE SBP?

A Summer Beach Project (SBP) is eight weeks in Myrtle Beach, living, playing, working, and learning with other college students. Each student works a full time job during the day and participates in evangelistic outreaches, Bible studies, discipleship groups, ministry training, fellowship, and other activities during the week. This demanding yet challenging schedule creates a perfect environment for students to grow in their relationship with Christ and develop ministry skills and leadership qualities.

WHAT ARE THE DATES OF THE SBP?

May 30h – July25th, 2013

WHY DO THE PARTICIPANTS WORK?

Students work because it is an invaluable learning experience. The jobs are part of the summer program designed to teach responsibility, dependability and to expose students to the real world through a secular job. Rooms of students will find their own job when they arrive at the Project. Most rooms find jobs within the first few days.

SERVICE INTERNSHIP

While most students will work a job, some may take advantage of a service internship. This internship will require students to volunteer with various non-profit organizations around Myrtle Beach throughout the summer. Students who participate in this internship will not work a job. If you are interested in this internship, please contact your campus staff person.

WHAT ELSE WILL WE DO?

Besides working a job and being involved in project activities, students will be worshipping and working with area churches. This gives students an opportunity to learn and serve in the context of a local church.

WHAT IS THE HOUSING SITUATION?

All 180 students from UNC-Greensboro, Elon University, Wingate University, UNC-Charlotte, Davidson College, Appalachian State, Guilford College, Georgetown University and George Washington University will be living together in a hotel located in Myrtle Beach. Contacts have already been made with employers, churches, and the hotel.

WHAT IS THE COST?

$1,700.00 is the approximate cost for the Project. This includes rent, two meals a week, all project fees and other special events. Each student will work a job or participate in a service internship. Students may also raise money to cover expenses. Details on how to raise money will be provided once a student has been accepted.

WHO SPONSORS THE PROJECT?

Campus Outreach is an interdenominational ministry to college students. Campus Outreach Charlotte is a ministry of Christ Covenant Church in Matthews, NC.
