2017 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame

The Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame recognizes volunteers and staff who have exhibited outstanding service to their county 4-H program. Each County Extension office may select an individual or couple to induct into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame in a ceremony at the Iowa State Fair 4-H Exhibit building the last day of the fair.

The individual or couple that each county selects becomes a member of the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame - there is no additional selection process at the state level. The Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame is an opportunity for counties to recognize their outstanding volunteers or staff at the state level.

The 2017 selection form follows these instructions. The deadline for the name(s), accompanying biography, contact information, and photo is May 31. Please send photo and write-up electronically to Shirley Stakey, .

The typed biography and photo for each inductee must be sent as electronic attachments in Microsoft Word and jpg format, respectively. The bio and photo will be placed in a three ring binder and on display at the state fair. The bio and photo will also be available on the 4-H Foundation website

Please make sure the bio is complete, checked for grammatical errors and demonstrates the contribution of the inductee to the county 4-H program, Extension and community. What is submitted will be copied and pasted into the bio pages in the binder and on the website. Limit it to one page (~400-450 words). Submissions may be edited or cut. Also, please include on the selection form FOURsentences that introduce and highlight why the county chose this person(s) for the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. These four sentences will be read when the inductee is introduced on stage at the induction ceremony.

A letter of congratulations and invitation to the ceremony will be mailed to the inductees from the state 4-H office in late July unless your county wishes to keep your selection a secret until a certain time. Please let us know by completing the additional information on the form and we will do all we can to accommodate your county’s or the family’s wishes. The county will then be responsible for forwarding the letter to the inductee (county will receive the inductee’s letter along with a copy).

The induction ceremony will take place on the last Sunday afternoon of the fair, August 20, in the 4-H Exhibit Building. Because of the extraordinary number of families and friends who attend the induction ceremony, there are two induction ceremonies to provide a quality experience for the inductees and their supporters. The first ceremony, for counties Adair through Jasper, will begin at 1:30 p.m. The second ceremony, for counties Jefferson through Wright, will begin at 3:30 p.m. (both East and West Pottawattamie are included in the second ceremony at 3:30).
