Course Description:Math Models is a course that is designed to develop student understanding of algebraic functions as they relate to real-world data. Students will build upon the base skills learned in Algebra I and Geometry, as they continue the study of linear, quadratic, and other nonlinear functions. The objectives for the TAKS will be incorporated into the curriculum, as will various topics in personal finance.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Spiral Notebooks (2) one per semester (preferably one with pockets)
- Pencils and paper
- 1st and 7th Period: Printer Paper
- 4thand 6th Period: Kleenex and Pencils
- 3rd and 5th Period: Kleenex and Notebook Paper
Rules:
- Be on time.
- Be respectful.
- Be encouraging and ALWAYS try your best.
Expectations:
1.Be in your seat and ready for class when the tardy bell rings.
Be ready means:
- Have your homework on your desk and start on your warm-up.
- Pick up any supplies and/or handouts I have posted.
- Have your pencil and assigned (or personal) calculator at your desk.
- South Campus tardy policy will be followed.
2.Cell phone use is prohibited unless otherwise stated by the teacher. The South Campus cell phone policy will be enforced.
3.Food and drinks are not allowed except bottled water.

EXTRA ASSISTANCE:
I want every one of you to be successful and pass my class. Please come in for extra help before or after school if you begin to have trouble or have any questions. There are also after school tutorials in room 2473 on Monday-Thursday.
For Parents: My conference period is 2ndPeriod. I will be more than happy to meet with or talk to parents by phone. For a quicker response parents may contact me by e-mail. Please do not hesitate to call or email me.
EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES:
Each student will have equal opportunity to earn the following point on their 9 weeks average:
- No tardies = 1 point
No extra credit projects or assignments will be given to raise grades for individual students. If extra credit is given it will be an opportunity for the entire class. I will assign extra credit opportunities at my discretion. Please do not ask for or expect them.
GRADING POLICY:
Tests/Major Grades / 60%Quizzes/Minor Grades / 20%
Assignments/Daily Work / 20%
A zero will be recorded for any student involved in cheating, and no make-up or retesting will be allowed.Progress reports will be sent home every 3rd week and can be requested any time through email. I will also email a progress report and send one home if I notice a student struggling near the end of the six weeks.
ASSIGNMENTS
- All work will be turned in to the appropriate class drawer when asked to.
- Every 2-3 days, students will be given a homework check which will consist of 4-5 questions over homework that is already completed. Using their homework is expected.
- Late work
- Work submitted after 2 days from the due date will have a maximum grade of 70% provided their work meet the passing standard. The grade for non-submission of work will be a “0”.
- All late work must be turned in by the day the material is being tested. I will not except late work after material has been tested.
TESTING PROCEDURES:
Absences:
- If you miss the review day, you will still be responsible for taking the test on
Test Day.
- If you are absent on Test Day or for a quiz you will have up to 5 days to make
the test or quiz up.
Retesting
- Students may retest on any test that received a grade below 70
- Students will come in and correct original test, then teacher will assign retest day.
- Students must correct original test before retesting will be allowed
ABSENT STUDENTS:
Check the absent bin for missed assignments and notes.
Students must submit their work within 3 days of returning to class or it will be considered late.
SOUTH CAMPUS MATH DEPARTMENT GRADING POLICY
I. The grading policy for all average or basic level math classes is:
20% homework/class work
20% quizzes
60% major tests
II. The grading policy for honors level classes is:
20% homework/class work
80% major tests
III.A zero will be recorded for any student involved in cheating. No make-up or retesting will be allowed.
SOUTH CAMPUS MATH DEPARTMENT RETESTING POLICY
I. Conditions for retesting:
A. Test Grade less than 70
B. Successful completion of a remediation assignment
C. No cheating occurred on the original test
II.Retest date will be determined by the teacher
III.Maximum retest grade is 70.
IV. Only two tests per nine weeks may be retested.
V. CBA’s cannot be retested.
NOTE: IF A STUDENT DOES NOT SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE REMEDIATION ASSIGNMENT OR IS ABSENT OR LATE FOR RETEST DATE, HE/SHE FORFEITS HIS/HER OPPORTUNITY TO RETEST. ANY EXECPTIONS MUST BE APPROVED BY THE TEACHER.

GRAPHING CALCULATOR CONTRACT
I, ______, am in Mrs. Wade’s Math Models class. I will be allowed to use one of DPHS’s (South Campus) TI84-Plus Calculators in class as long as I agree to the following guidelines and have a parent signature.
- The calculator will be used as an instructional tool, not a toy.
- It is to be returned at the end of each period into the appropriate place.
- The back of the calculator is NOT to be taken off and batteries are NOT to be removed.
- Any of the following will result in denial of calculator privileges:
1)Damage in any form to the calculator and/or parts
2)“Text Messages” entered into the calculator
3)Programs loaded without the teacher’s permission
4)Loading or playing games on the calculator
Mrs. Wade will explain the procedure for distribution and collection of the calculators in class each day. If you do not agree with this contract, it will be your responsibility to provide your own graphing calculator.
