Position Title: Graduate Assistant for Diversity Education and Student Success

The Graduate Assistant for Diversity and Student Success position consists of a unique combination of activities at Colorado State University. Primary areas of responsibility include program development and implementation for the student diversity peer educators (DPE), advising the President’s Multicultural Student Advisory Committee, assessing retention efforts within Student Diversity Programs and Services (SDPS), group facilitation, training, and collaboration with staff specifically in the SDPS cluster. This is a new position, and will be an integral member of the SDPS cluster.

Primary Responsibilities:

A.  Diversity Peer Educator Program/SDPS student support

1.  Co-Advise/Supervise up to 12 student diversity peer educators (DPE)

2.  Co-create and facilitate trainings/workshops for the DPE

3.  Collaborate with SDPS staff to identify ways to best support cluster wide efforts via the DPE program

4.  Attend and lead the regularly scheduled DPE team meetings

5.  Establish campus partnerships to encourage inviting the DPE to facilitate a peer workshop

6.  Responsible for tracking hours for the DPE students

7.  Manage a small budget for DPE payroll and training

8.  Assist with training for all SDPS student staff/SDPS peer mentors

9.  Organize and host trainings, workshops, socials for all SDSP student staff

B.  President’s Multicultural Student Advisory Committee (PMSAC)

1.  Take the lead on planning, coordinating, and directing the President’s Multicultural Student Advisory Committee (PMSAC) including but not limited to:

i.  Meet with the Vice President for Student Affairs, and Vice President for Diversity as needed

ii. Develop working relationships with committee members,

iii.  Plan and coordinate the annual retreat,

iv.  developing meeting agendas,

v. follow-through on all committee plans and ideas,

vi.  Regularly meet with the Director of Administrative Communications for the Office of the President

C.  Retention/Assessment

1.  Work closely with the Senior Coordinator for Retention and Success to determine assessment needs for the SDPS cluster

2.  Assist with the development of intervention strategies for students on academic probation

3.  Collaborate with Community for Excellence, Student Diversity Programs and Services offices, Academic Support Coordinators, and others to support student success

4.  Conduct assessment of peer based initiatives (cultural centers) working with the Poudre School District

5.  Gather data to demonstrate HIP’s within the SDPS cluster

6.  Complete other duties and tasks as assigned

D.  Professional Development

1.  Attend and participate in all SDPS staff meetings and related trainings.

  1. Participate in Division of Student Affairs meetings, trainings and professional development activities where applicable decided by supervisor.

3.  Demonstrate a professional commitment to diversity, inclusion and social justice.

4.  Support the goals and values of the Division of Student Affairs, and SDPS.

5.  Adhere to and role model the institutions Principles of Community.

6.  Develop connections with students and professional staff in the SDPS cluster.

Minimum Qualifications:

·  Must be a full-time graduate student currently enrolled at Colorado State University

·  Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

·  Ability to work in both team settings and autonomously

·  Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion and social justice

·  Demonstrated ability to build positive, collaborative working relationships

·  Available to work during the summer

Preferred Qualifications

·  Experience as a student leader in diversity/multicultural/identity based organizations

·  Enrolled in SAHE program

·  Well-developed organizational and administrative skills

·  Flexibility and adaptability

·  Ability to maintain confidentiality

·  Experience facilitating training session and/or presenting programs

Selection Process

Individuals will be chosen following regular graduate assistantship placement, based on the SAHE selection process. Applications should be submitted by the SAHE application deadline. If the position is not filled by SAHE students, this position will be open to other graduate programs, whom can apply after the SAHE deadline.

Terms of Employment:

The assistantship is a 25 hour/week appointment that provides the student with tuition for the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic year (full tuition regardless of the student’s in-state of out-of-state residency status), plus a monthly stipend. Students typically apply for, and receive, in-state residency for the second year of the program. The period of employment is from early July 2017 through mid-May 2018; with the expectation to work Ram Orientation the summer of 2018.

Office Location:

Office is shared location with other professional staff, the primary location would be in the Lory Student Center, and possibly in the Vice President for Student Affairs office suite.

Additional Information

Time Commitment:

This position will be expected to be available during Ram Orientation during the summer, and there will be some evening and weekend responsibilities. While the total amount of time devoted to the position varies with the individual, it is the intent of this office to be mindful of student's academic pursuits and professional development.

Length of Contract:

This position is a 12 month period beginning July through the end of June. Time off requests will be flexible around Ram Orientation and other priority initiatives determined by the supervisor.

Academic Load:

·  Is expected to appropriately balance their academic, assistantship and personal commitments

·  Must have supervisor approval to enroll in more than 13 credit hours each semester

·  Must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA. If the semester GPA falls below a 3.0 then the GA will have one probationary semester to meet the minimum requirements. If the cumulative or term GPA falls below 3.0 for two consecutive semesters, the GA may be released from their position.

Please note: you cannot hold another job, opportunity, internship, etc. that is over 20 hours a week.

Professional Development Support:

The graduate assistant will be provided with $250 annually to support their professional development (i.e. attend a conference, workshop, etc.). Funds must be approved by supervisor prior to registering for a conference.
