Strategic Goal 1: Protect

William Penn Grant: Stewardship was directly involved in the development and installation of the rain garden project to control storm water runoff at the Climbers Run Preserve. Marticville Middle School students provided assistance planting native shrubs in the rain garden project led by Lydia Martin Land Steward and Educational Specialist.

Conservation Landscape Grant: Began installation of property boundary markers of Phase 2B lands to include a total of 195 acres located at Shenks Ferry Wildflower Preserve, Otter Creek and Pequea parcels.

Steinman Run Preserve Forest Management Plan: Pat Fasano Comprehensive Land Services consultant has completed the Steinman Run forest management plan. Pat presented the plan to the Stewardship Committee and the 10 year prescriptions for preserve for their recommendation to the board for approval.

Rock Springs Preserve: Stewardship and Land Protection met with Rick McWhorter Old Dominion Electric Cooperative Vice President Operations to discuss the construction of the waterline. Old Dominion Electric’s disclosed the final plan to install the water line outside of the Rock Springs property boundary.

Stewardship Crew Projects: The Stewardship Crew is currently performing annual preserve maintenance and preserve projects that include: Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) maintenance at Reed Run, Windolph Landing and Homewood Preserves. Climbers Run Preserve restoration efforts and trail clearing at Pinnacle Overlook/Kelly’s Run for emergency access.

Strategic Goal 2: Engage

Volunteer Land Steward Workshop: The workshop was provided for approximately 18 Volunteer Land Stewards at Climbers Run Preserve on Saturday May 17. Mike Burcin CEO welcomed the group and provided an overview of the renovation projects at Climbers Run. Topics presented at the workshop included native trees and invasive plant identification and preserve monitoring/safety procedures techniques. Stewardship Committee members Mark Arbogast, David Dobbins and David Zegers were on hand to assist with the day’s activities.
