Foreign Trade2016 compared to 2015
- Main increase in export of goods (excluding diamonds) to: USA, Taiwan, Azerbaijan, Spain, Belgium, Hong Kong, China,Germany, Canada and Switzerland
- Main increase in import of goods (excluding diamonds) from: Japan, Ireland, Singapore, Slovenia, and Belgium
- NIS15.8 billionsurplus in trade (excluding diamonds) was recorded with USA
- The biggest surplus in trade (excluding diamonds) without USA was recorded withVietnam, Malaysia, Brazil,India,Canada, Australiaand Russian Federation
- The biggest deficit in trade (excluding diamonds) was recorded with Switzerland (NIS 12.9 billion), China (NIS 10.1 billion), Germany (NIS10.0 billion), Ireland,Italy and Japan.

Development of the trade in goods by Countries - December 2015
In 2016, export of goods (gross) totaled NIS231.9billion that represents adecrease ofNIS17.2 billion(-6.9%) compared to 2015.

Import of goods(gross) totaled NIS 252.7 billion that represents an increase of NIS 11.4 billion (4.7%) compared to 2015 and the trade deficit(gross) totaled NIS 20.8 billion compared to a trade surplus of NIS 7.9 billion in 2015.
Export of goods by country groups shows that export to USAdecreased by 3.9% (NIS 2.8 billion), export of goods toAsian countries decreased by 13.0% (NIS8.9 billion),exports toEUcountriesdecreased by 3.2% (NIS 2.0 billion) and exports to Other countries decreased by NIS3.5 billion.
Import of goods fromEU countriesincreased by 19.8% (NIS17.4 billion),import of goodsfrom Asian countriesincreased by 11.8% (NIS7.0 billion).In contrast, import of goodsfrom USA decreased by 1.2% andimport of goodsfromOther countries decrease by 20.1% (NIS12.6 billion).
The trade in goods (excluding diamonds)with EU countries, points to a deficit of NIS47.0 billion that represent an increase of 63.5% compared to 2015.
The trade deficit in goods (excluding diamonds) with Asian countries totaled NIS 19.7 billion compared todeficit of NIS6.7 billion in2015.
The trade deficit in goods(excluding diamonds) with Other countries grouptotaled NIS2.6 billion that represent a decline of78.8% compared to 2015.
In contrast, trade in goods(excluding diamonds)with USA, points to a surplus of NIS15.8 billion, compared to surplus ofNIS 13.8 billion in2015.

Export of goods(excluding diamonds) above NIS5 billion was recorded in trade with: USA (NIS 44.0 billion), UK (NIS 14.0 billion), China (NIS 12.3 billion), Netherlands (NIS 8.2 billion) andGermany (NIS5.6 billion).

Import of goods (excluding diamonds) above NIS5 billion in 2016: USA (NIS28.6 billion), China(NIS 22.4 billion), Germany(NIS15.6 billion), Switzerland and UK(NIS14.0 billion each),Netherlands (NIS 10.4 billion), Italy(NIS10.3 billion), Turkey(NIS10.0 billion),Japan(NIS8.9 billion),Belgium,Ireland, France, Spain,Singaporeand South Korea.It should be noted that country of import is country of purchase.
The more significant increase (more than 30%) in export of goods (excluding diamonds), by country, was recorded in exports toRwanda, Honduras, Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Ethiopia and Croatia. In contrast, export of goods (excluding diamonds) to Malaysia, Bulgaria, Jordan,Kenya and Island declined significantly in 2016.
The more significant increase (more than 30%) in import of goods (excluding diamonds), by country, was recorded in imports from Slovenia, Russian Federation, Japan,Singapore, UK.,Ireland and Mexico. In contrast, import of goods (excluding diamonds) from Croatia, Slovakia, New Zealand,Jordan and Island declined significantly.
This information was provided by the Central Bureau of Statistics, based on preliminary data regarding goods that passed through Customs. Final data for 2016 will be published on April 2017. Data do not include trade between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. In addition, the data do not include trade of services that include, among others, export of software. Data on all exports and imports of goods and services are published as part of the Balance of Payments, every quarter.

Main Findings
Trade of goods withEU countries constituted in 2016 26.1% of export of goods (25.1% in 2015) and 41.6% of import of goods (36.3% in 2015). Exports to EU countriesdeclined by 3.2% (NIS-2.0 billion), imports increased by 19.8% (NIS17.4 billion) and the trade deficit in goods increased by 77.0% compared to 2015.
Trade of goods with USA constituted in 201629.2% of export of goods (28.3% in 2015) and 12.3% of import of goods (13.0% in 2015). Exports to USAdeclined by 3.9% (NIS-2.8 billion), imports declined by 1.2% (NIS-0.4 billion) and the trade surplus in goods decreased by 6.1% (NIS-2.4 billionin 2015).
Trade of goods with Asian countries constituted in 201625.8% of export of goods (27.6% in 2015) and 26.3% of import of goods (24.7% in 2015). Exports to Asian countriesdecreased by 13.0% (NIS -8.9 billion), imports increased by 11.8% (NIS 7.0 billion) and the trade deficit in goods totaled NIS 6.6 billion in 2016 compared to surplus of NIS 9.4 billion in 2015.
Trade of goods with Other countries constituted in 201619.0% of export of goods (19.0% in 2015) and 19.8% of import of goods(26.0% in 2015).
Trade in goods in 2016 was influenced by changes in price of goods and by exchange rates of the NIS against other currencies.

Trade in diamonds
In 2016, export of diamonds (gross) totaled NIS60.2 billionlower by 12.2% than in 2015. The main country partners wereUSA (40%), Hong Kong(24%), Belgium,Indiaand Switzerland.
Import of diamonds (gross) totaled NIS27.4 billionhigher by 2.3% compared to 2015. Import of diamonds from Belgium represented(26%), India (14%), Hong Kong,Switzerland,USAand Russian Federationwere the main country partners.

Exports toUSAincreased by13.1% an annual ratein October-December, continuing a rise of 10.6% at an annual rate in July-September2016.
Exports toAsian countriesrose by 35.8%(2.6% monthly average) at an annual ratein October-December continuinganincrease of 24.0% (1.8% monthly average) in July-September 2016.
Exports toOther countriesdecreased by 8.8% in the last three months, at an annual rate, continuing adecrease of 38.9% (-4.0% monthly average)in July-September 2016.
