AMU BAJA Southern African Challenge

DEFINITION
The 2007 AMU Baja Southern Challenge is open to riders from AMU member countries and will be eligible to score points in the AMU Baja Southern Challenge. This Challenge will comprise of four rounds of competitions with one round held in each Namibia, Botswana (under MSA Federation), Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Challenge is organized in accordance with the rules of the FIM and the AMU.
The meeting will be held under the AMU Sporting Code, the Statutes of the AMU and these Supplementary Regulations which have been duly examined and approved by the AMU Council.

CLASSES
Minimum age 16 years – according to Article 5.4 of the Baja Rules
Motorcycles/Quads shall be classified as follows:
- CLASS B1:Up to 200cc (2-stroke) Motorcycles up to 250cc (4-stroke) Motorcycles
- CLASS B2:Over 200cc 2-stroke and over 250cc 4-stroke
- CLASS B3:Open Quad

For SAC Classes: Entries open immediately and close on Monday 19 March 2007. No Late entries for SAC Classes will be accepted.

ENTRY FEE
The entry fee will be ZK 50,000 (US$ 15, SAR 90)
Zambian Riders entering the SAC Event will automatically be entered into their respective ZMSA Championship class, and will only be required to pay one entry fee.

LICENCES
Competitors competing for the Southern African Challenge must hold a valid AMU BAJA Competition License, which will be issued by Ms Jacqui Monteiro - the AMU Secretariat at the cost of US$ 30.- / R 200.-.,
To obtain an AMU License, a copy of the completed and stamped Application Form must be sent to your FMN whowill submit them tothe AMU Secretariat.
DOCUMENTATION
Documentation will take place on Saturday 24 March 2007, from 07.15 – 08.15hrs at Dorvic Farm, Mazabuka, Zambia.
TECHNICAL INSPECTION (SCRUTINEERING)
Technical Control will take place onSaturday 24 March 2007, from 07.15 – 08.15hrs at Dorvic Farm, Mazabuka, Zambia.
All machines as well as riders’ clothing and equipment will be checked. (Including First Aid kit.) Identification marks will be fixed to the machines during the Technical Control, prior to the start. The Technical Stewards may check, at any time, the presence of these identification marks. The absence or falsification of an identification mark, shall result in exclusion of the rider from the race.
PROTESTS AND APPEALS
Protests against the eligibility of a rider, entrant or a motorcycle entered, must be made before the start of the event.
Protests against results must be presented to the Jury within 30 minutes following an announcement of the results.
Protests against a motorcycle which passes the Technical Inspection will not be considered, except for a protest lodged for reasons of safety, or against the cubic capacity of a machine.
All protests to the Jury must be made in accordance with the requirements of the Disciplinary and Arbitration Code of the FIM and be accompanied by a fee of US$ 50.00 (or Zambian Kwacha equivalent) returnable if the protest is upheld.

FUEL
Only local pump fuel is permitted, up to a maximum octane rating of 102.6.
Fuel will NOT be available at the circuit. Octane boosters are not permitted. The use of methanol is not permitted.
VENUE
Dorvic Farm, Mazabuka +- 15km from main Kafue/Mazabuka tar road, as signposted.
Length of Route: Approximately 50 km for motorcycles and 40km for quads

DURATION OF EVENT
All Championship Bike Classes:4 Laps
All Championship Quad Classes:4 laps
Clubman’s Support Classes:2 Laps
The number of laps and overall times may be adjusted in the Final Instructions, when the final route has been set and timed.
Once the Cut Off Time has elapsed for the respective classes, no rider will be permitted to commence a new lap. Riders on the course after the respective Cut Off Time, will be permitted to complete that lap, and will be record an overall elapsed time once they cross the Finish Line, up to the final Time Bar. Riders reaching the Finish Line after the Final Time Bar will not be classed as a finisher, and will be excluded from the results.
START PROCEDURE
Starting procedure will be individual riders at 1 minute intervals for the SAC riders, all other riders will start at 30 sec intervals. A gap of min 2 minutes to be maintained after the start of the last Championship bike and the 1st Championship Quad.
CLOSED PARK
All machines are to be assembled in the “ClosedPark” 10 minutes before the due Start Time for the 1st bike class. Any machine not in the “ClosedPark” by the due time, will not be permitted to start in the event.
Final Technical Control
All machines are to be parked in the “Closed Park” for a period of 30 minutes on completion of the event, where they will undergo final Technical Control, and where all sealed parts will be checked.
INSURANCE
By endorsing the entry form, the FMN of the rider certifies that the rider is insured in accordance with AMU requirements (including repatriation costs). The organisers further confirm that they have contracted third party insurance in accordance with Art. 110.1 of the AMU Sporting Code.
The organisers disclaim all responsibility for damages to a motorcycle, its accessories and components arising out of an accident, fire, theft or any other causes.
Proof of repatriation and medical insurance cover must be produced at documentation. Riders not able to provide proof of medical insurance cover, will be required to obtain this cover via SES who will be present at the event.
RIDING GEAR
Protective clothing must be worn by all competitors. Riders must carry a first aid kit.
RIDING NUMBERS
Racing Numbers used in riders own country are accepted, must be stated on Entry Form.
Should 2 Riders/or more, have the same racing number, the organizer will allocate a new number to the entrant.
All other riders will get their number allocated from ZMSA
Numbers will not be available at track
POINTS SCORING
Points will be awarded to riders in the eventaccording to the following scale:
20 points - 1st10 points - 6th5 points - 11th
17 points - 2nd 9 points - 7th4 points - 12th
15 points - 3rd 8 points - 8th3 points - 13th
13 points - 4th 7 points - 9th2 points - 14th
11 points - 5th 6 points - 10th1 point - 15thand below.
In addition, all officials starters of the event, i.e.: the rider has left the start line on his due time or within the period of penalty for a late start, will receive 1 point.
The winner and subsequent finishing positions will be decided on the total elapsed time for the number of whole laps completed.
PRIZES AND AWARDS
The following trophies will be awarded:
1st, 2nd and 3rd in each class per the ZMSA NATIONAL CLASS FORMAT.
Overall trophies in all AMU SAC classes will be presented at the last of the 4 Challenge events.

The interpretation of these regulations rests entirely with the Jury.
