Memory Lane Family Place
Swap Shop
The Swap Shop provides people with an opportunity to exchange a product they may have for a product they may need. There is no money required.
How the Swap Shop works:
Items are assigned a dollar value (please see listing at the end of this document or on the Swap Shop wall in the clothing depot).
When you bring an item for exchange, you get an item or items totaling the value of the item you brought. For example, if you brought in dishwashing liquid worth $1.00, then you would be able to trade for something of equal value, like ten garbage bags each worth 10 cents or a package of sanitary napkins worth $1.00.
The Swap Shop is located in the same building as the clothing depot (outside building on the left of the centre). For dates and times when the Swap Shop is open, please see the seasonal calendar or contact the centre at
(902) 864-6363.
Donations are graciously accepted.

Policies:
1)Membership:
- A member is any individual who wishes to exchange items at the Swap Shop. There is no fee for membership.
- All members will have an account. The account will show credits and debits, as items are exchanged.
- A member can carry a balance owing to a maximum of $5.00.
- Members are asked to please note any comments/ideas/concerns in the communication binder
2)Swap Shop Items:
- All items are assigned a value according to the Swap Shop inventory list. If an item is not included on the list, it is up to the discretion of the volunteer/staff person to assign an appropriate value.
- Items not included on the Swap Shop inventory list may not be accepted for exchange. It is at the discretion of the volunteer/staff person.
- There are no returns after an exchange is made.
- The association assumes no responsibility.
3)Child Care:
- The PlayShop will be open for child care during drop-in hours.
- Please let your child(ren) and staff know when/if you are leaving the PlayShop to visit the Swap Shop.
- The Swap Shop is an adult-only environment. Children are not permitted in the building, unless they are under 12 months of age and able to stay in infant carriers.
4)Conduct/Confidentiality:
- We think of the Memory Lane Family Place as a model for everyone. Adult-like behaviour, especially as it relates to language is expected (as the children are watching and listening). Complete professional behaviour is expected at all times from everyone.
- We encourage problem solving (using peaceful words with each other). If you are unhappy with anything at the Centre, we ask you to please direct your concerns to staff.
- Confidentiality is expected at Memory Lane – “what is said here, seen here, stays here”.
- We have a “zero” tolerance policy to any use of corporal punishments which include slapping, shaking, hitting, yelling, pushing or humiliating another person.
- Issues will be dealt with on an individual basis. Protocol will include bringing both people together (if possible), sharing feelings and making amends. This may mean, if a child has injured another, he/she will be encouraged to find a way to take care of the injured person (possibly bringing a cold cloth to the injured child).
5)Evaluation:
- Evaluation is an important part of the Centre’s overall operation. You could be asked to provide feedback, complete forms and/or share your story.
- We appreciate all responses and are thankful to participants who provide them.
- We have an open-door policy and invite you to share your comments, questions and concerns anytime.
Please refer to the Centre’s policies for all other issues, as related to holidays, centre closures, etc.
“We hope you find good use of the Swap Shop and remind you that we are always open to your feedback.”
