Program Description:

Medication clinic is offered to clients, age five years and above, already involved in therapeutic services at GCBHS.Clients are seen by a telemedicine provider affiliated with Strength of Mind Offices in Broken Arrow, Okla. for pharmacotherapy and/or pharmacological services. Clients are prescribed the appropriate medications based on diagnosis, severity of symptomsand medical/behavioral health history. During the visit with the telemedicine provider the needs and preferences of the client are addressed.

Special populations seen are children over the age of 5 years, adolescents, older adults, persons with developmental disabilities, persons with HIV/AIDS and federal offenders. Standard precautions are implemented on all consumers who are seen in medication clinic.

The medication clinic is offered 4 days a week, mornings on Mon. and Wed. and afternoons on Tues. and Thurs. Clients who have missed their scheduled appointment for telemedicine are able to receive emergency medications from the medical director or his associate. The medical director or his associate is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week and operates medication clinic 4 days a week. Clients and their families are provided medication education and support by the medical director and qualified staff.

Philosophy of the Program:

Based on the needs of the clients, all persons screened over the age of 5 years are eligible for evaluation with the physician. We believe that a combination of treatment and medication is proven to be the most effective in a successful recovery.

Staff criteria and specialized training required:

Medication clinic is staffed with a licensed physician, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, mat certified assistant/phlebotomist, indigent medication case manager and receptionist. All staff are trained in CPR/1st Aid and CAPE.

Admission Criteria:

GCBHS clients ,over the age of 5 years, receiving services are eligible for services in the medication clinic.

Exclusionary Criteria:

Clients who refuse services and evaluation through medication clinic will not be seen.Our provider policy excludes children under age 5 years. Clients under the age of 5 years will be referred outside the agency for medication services.

Program Modalities:

Medication clinic is located in D building of the main offices of GCBHS.

In addition to services by the medical director, medication clinic also has services by qualified staff to monitor clients on neuroleptic medications for tardive dyskinesia. Clients who are taking medications which require lab testing for bloods levels are also able to receive those services at medication clinic.

Consumers who do not have prescription coverage and cannot afford medications are linked with our indigent medication case manager for assistance in receiving medication at low/no cost.

Medication clinic submits a daily no-show list to case management for follow up and assistance in compliance and rescheduling.

Access:

All consumers of GCBHS have access to medication clinic and evaluation by the medical director or his associate.Persons served will not be limited to accessing services due to homelessness, his/her past or present mental health or co-occurring disorder issues, the presumption of their inability to benefit from treatment, any substances presently or historically used, or their level of success in prior treatment.

Medication clinic is open to consumers Monday – Friday from 0800 to 1700. The telemedicine provider times are Monday and Wednesday from 0800 to 1200 noon and On Tuesday and Thursday from 1300 to 1700. Medication Clinic is located in D building at the main offices of GCBHS at 619 N. Main St., Muskogee, Okla.
