About the College
Kerala University College of Teacher Education, Kayamkulam is an Educational Institution directly run by the University of Kerala for imparting B. Ed. course in five disciplines. Since its inception in 1997, the College has achieved considerable heights in academic excellence and extra-curricular perfection. Students from all parts of Kerala are studying in this College, creating an atmosphere of a miniature Kerala in the heart of the historic Kayamkulam town. The faculties with talents in their individual areas of expertise are committed to furthering the education of our outstanding students. There are supportive staff, state-of the-art facilities and strong relations maintained with local schools and community agencies. The main goal is to carve out good teachers and to equip them with the right combination of knowledge, skills and understanding to be an excellent teacher in any school setting.

Beginning of the New Academic Year…
The new academic year commenced on 1st July 2015. Fifty students were admitted during the year. A small function was organized & was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Sunith Kumar G. N. in which he explained the mandate and functioning of the college to new students and their parents.
The College Development Committee members for the academic year were selected. The CDC members are as follows:

The academic programmes to be conducted during new academic year were also discussed in that meeting. The parents promised to extend their complete co-operation to the developmental activities of the college.
B.Ed. Course Inauguration 2015-17
The official inauguration of the two year B. Ed. programme of the academic year was held on 6th July 2015. Dr. Sunith Kumar. G. N, Principal, KUCTE, Kayamkulam welcomed the guests, staff and students. Shri. M. Abdulla, Former CDC Vice-President, KUCTE, Kayamkulam delivered the inaugural speech. Smt. Sherly Kutty T. Molickal (Principal, GHSST, Kayamkulam) presided over the function and wished a meaningful and elegant academic year. Smt. Jayalekshmi. C. N, Administrative Officer, KUCTE, Kayamkulam and Shri. C. Vijayan Pillai, Former CDC Auditor delivered the felicitation speech. Mr. Maheen Kann, Former Chairman-College Union proposed the vote of thanks.
Self-reflection
A self – reflection gathering was arranged during one of the initial days to familiarize each other.
Morning Assembly
Every day academic activities begin with the prayer. Morning assembly conducted during every Tuesday & Thursdays in which all students and teachers take part. The assemblies conducted House-wise and a topic of current interest presented to improve the communication skills and to be in tune with the current affairs.
Birthday Celebration
Birthday of the students and staff of the institution was celebrated in the campus. A birthday card was presented to the star of the day as a token of love by the staff and students of the institution.
Important Day Celebration
Important national and international days were celebrated in the campus. Kargil day, World Nature Conservation Day, Hindi Day, Democracy Day, World Food Day etc. were celebrated in the campus.
‘Eenam and Thalam’ in Films
On 15th July 2015, a class on “Eenam and Thalam” was organized in the college campus. The class was handled by Shri. T. M. Suresh Kumar, HSA, Govt. Boys High School, Kayamkulam. Smt. J. Sudha, Head Mistress, Govt. Boys High School, Dr. G. N. Sunith Kumar, Principal and Staff of KUCTE, Kayamkulam were also present.
Communicative English Class
On 16th July 2015 a class on communicative English speaking skills was organized in the college campus.
Anti-Drug Awareness Programme
On 22nd July 2015 Lions Club organized ‘Campus Based Drug Prevention Programme’ in the campus. Shri. V. Suresh Kumar IPS, District Police superintend was the chief guest. Smt. Sherly Kutty. T. Molikal, Head Mistress Govt. B.H.S.S, Kayamkulam delivered welcome speech.
College Election
College election for the academic year 2015-2016 was held on 29th July 2015. Smt. Hemaletha, Staff Advisor & Assistant Professor in Natural Science was the presiding officer of the programme. Dr. Sunith Kumar, Principal, KUCTE, Kayamkulam acted as jury of appeal. The elected members are Chairman (Nithin Rateesh), Aiswarya A. R. (Vice Chairman), Soorya S. (Joint Secretary), Arya Joseph (General Secretary), Priya V. S. (Arts Club Secretary), Priya U (Sports Club Secretary), V. B. Reshma (Literary Club) and Amrutha Lekshmi (Magazine Editor)
Swearing Ceremony
On 30th July 2015 oath taking ceremony of the college union was held in the college campus. Dr. Sunith Kumar, Principal, KUCTE, Kayamkulam recited the oath to the chairman of the union. The Chairman, college union recited the oath to other members of the union. Vote of thanks was delivered by Smt. Sabeena S., Assistant Professor in Arabic .
Science Workshop
On 13th August 2015 a workshop on ‘Rote learning to Active Learning’ was conducted in the college campus. Dr. Reena, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, MSM College handled the session. The aim of the workshop was to train the teacher trainees to make their classroom active centres of learning.
Independence Day celebration
The sixty ninth Independence Day celebration was celebrated on 15th August 2015 with flag hoisting ceremony by Adv. U. Mohammed, Vice Chairman, Kayamkulam Municipality. The welcome speech was delivered by Smt. Chitra I., Assistant Professor in Physical Science and presidential address was delivered by Dr. G. N. Sunith Kumar, Principal. Independence Day message was given by renowned writer cum poet Shri. Thottappally Raveendranath. Smt. Rani Rajan, Assistant Professor in Social science and Mr. Nidhin Rateesh, Chairman, College Union delivered felicitation speech. Formal function was followed by cultural programmes.
Community Service
On 17th August 2015 staff and students of the college distributed mid-day meal to the inmates of Govt. Taluk Hospital, Kayamkulam. The Principal and College union members visited the hospital.
Inauguration of College Union, Merit Day, Arts, Sports and Literary Clubs
On 18th August 2015, the college union, arts, sports and literary clubs were inaugurated in the college campus. The merit day was also organized along with. Adv. Johnson Abraham, Syndicate member inaugurated the function. Merit day was inaugurated by Shri. K. Pushpadas Counsellor, Kayamkulam Muncipality, Arts club was inaugurated by Shri. O. S. Unnikrishnan, State award winner for the best lyricist-2015. Sports club was inaugurated by Shri. Shanavas B., Assistant professor, KUCTE, Kayamkulam. Shri. Chunakkara Janardhanan Nair renowned orator inaugurated the literary club. All the staff and students of the college actively participated in the function.
Onam Celebration
Onam was celebrated in the campus on 21st August 2015.Flower carpet, Thiruvathirakali and onam programme were performed. Everyone enjoyed the grant ‘Sadhya’ arranged by the students themselves. After Onasadya, onakkalikal and other recreational games were also arranged.
Class on Life Skills
A class on Life skills was held on 31st August 2015. Shri. Pramod Dinakar was the resource person. Smt. Deepanjali also assisted the session. Life skills like self-awareness, empathy, inter personal relation, effective communication, creative thinking, problem solving, emotional management, stress management etc. were discussed.
Gurupooja
Teacher’s day and Gurupooja was celebrated in the campus on 7th September 2015. Inaugural address was given by Shri. C. K. Sadasivan, Hon. MLA, Kayamkulam. Shri. K. Radhakrishnan Pillai, Head Master, Govt. UPS, Kayamkulam, State Best teacher awardee 2010 delivered the keynote address. Shri. K. Pushpadas, Counsellor, Kayamkulam Municipality delivered the felicitation. Guruvandanam was arranged to honour the previous Principals who served the institution.
Inauguration of Hindi Association
On 14th September, Hindi Day was celebrated in the college campus. Dr. Sunith Kumar delivered the presidential address. The function was inaugurated by Shri. Narayan Namboodiri, Professor (Rtd), S D College, Alappuzha. Students presented papers on various topics related to importance of Hindi as official and national language.
Inter Collegiate Quiz Competition
On 15th September 2015, inter collegiate quiz competition was held in the campus in connection with Observance of Ozone day. Students from various training colleges participated in the competition. First prize was won by KUCTE, Kayamkulam. Students of St. John ’s College won second prize and students of KUCTE, Adoor won third prize. Dr. G. N. Sunith Kumar distributed the prizes to the winners.
Observance of Ozone day
Ozone day was celebrated in the campus on 16thSeptember 2015. A seminar on “Ozone Layer Depletion: Healing & Restoration” was organized in the college . The inaugural session started at 10 a.m. Inaugural address was given by Shri. John Thomas, Member syndicate, University of Kerala. Vote of thanks was delivered by Smt. Hemaletha, Staff Advisor Dr. Bindu R. L., Associate Professor, Department of Education, Kerala University, Dr. Kaladevi V, Associate Professor, St. John’s College and Shri. Abraham Thomas. M, Associate Professor, Peet Memorial Training College handled various thematic sessions.
Health Class
A class on Health and Environment was organized in the college campus. Mr. Abdul Majeed shortly known as Read n win handled the class.
Class on Value Education
On 18th September2015 a class on value education was conducted in the campus.
Nature Camp
A nature camp was conducted for three days on 28th, 29th and 30th of September 2015 at Peppara, Trivandrum. Twenty nine students attended the function with six teaching staff. Trekking, Dam visit, exploring forest were part of the camp.
Gandhi Jayanti Celebration
On 2nd October, Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated in the college campus. Dr. Sunith Kumar, Principal delivered the message. Staff and students actively participated in the function.
Law Awareness Class
A Law awareness class was conducted in the college campus on 7th October 2015. Adv. Anil Kumar, High Court of Kerala handled the classes. Hindu Marriage Act, Christian Marriage Act, Muslim Marriage act, domestic violence, cyber laws etc. were discussed in detail.
Micro Teaching Class
A class on Micro teaching was conducted in the college campus on 13th October 2015. The session was handled by Dr. Mariamma Mathew, Associate Professor, Peet Memorial training College. Discussions on various micro skills in teaching were made. Smt. Chithra I., Assistant Professor, KUCTE, Kayamkulam delivered the vote of thanks.
Remembrance of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday was celebrated in the campus as Student’s day on 15th October 2015. The programme was sponsored by Social forum, Kayamkulam. Presidential address was delivered by Adv. O. Haris, President, Social Forum. Inaugural speech was given by Shri. Chunakkara Janardhanan Nair. Shri. Deva Das chingoli, Poet and musician were also present.
Mid Semester Exam
Mid Semester Exam was conducted from 19th to 30th October 2015.
Visit to Art Gallery
A visit to Art Gallery was conducted on 30th October 2015. Kerala Lalithakala Academy, Shankar Museum & Art Gallery were the institutions visited. All the students, teachers and non- teaching staff enjoyed the trip.
Visit to Krishnapuram Palace
A field visit was conducted to Krishnapuram palace on 12th November 2015. All the teachers and non-teaching staff accompanied the students.
Get rid of Exam anxiety - Counselling
‘Mass Counselling for Character formation and Exam fear” – a class was conducted on 16th November 2015 in the campus. Ms. Thresia, Counselling Psychologist handled the session. The programme was highly informative.
Kayamkulam Jalothsavam
On 19th November 2015 Staff and students of KUCTE participated in the opening ceremony of 5th Celebration of Kayamkulam Jalothsavam. All the students ,staff and non teaching staff of the college whole heartedly participated in the function.
Capacity Building Activity
As part of the revised B. Ed. curriculum various activities were performed by the students. These activities helped to develop their creativity, communication skill, self-confidence, leadership skills, problem solving ability, presentation skills etc.
Christmas Day Celebration
Christmas day celebration of the academic year 2015 was on 21st December 2015. The Principal welcomed the audience. Christmas message was delivered by Rev. Fr. Bony Sebastian Charangadu from Cherthala Seminary.
Sent off giving to Smt. Jayalekshmy.C.L, Administrative Officer and Welcoming of Smt. RadhikaV. R. as Academic Co-ordinator was also done in the function. Sri. M. Abdulla,Vice president, CDC (2015-16), Sri. Vijayan Pillai, Auditor, CDC (2013-14), Smt. Chitra I, Staff Secretary and Sri. Nayim, Union Chairman (2012-13) delivered felicitation. The formal function was followed by variety entertainments presented by students of the college.
Art’s Corner
As part of developing the creativity of the teacher trainees, Arts corner was arranged in the campus. A board with the name ‘Arts Corner’ was displayed in the entrance corridor of the college. Students were divided in to four houses namely - Orchid, Daffodils, Lavender and Rose. Every week each house was in charge of the Art’s Corner. Students were asked to fill the board with articles, pictures and others details regarding twelve art forms namely-Music, Painting, Dance, Sculpture, Photography, Film, Drama, Architecture, Musical Instrument, Cartoon, Literature etc. Overall performance was also given marks. In the first semester Orchid house scored highest points.
Art & Glass Painting Workshop
As a part of B. Ed. curriculum a workshop on art and craft was conducted on 2nd November 2016. Smt. Chitra I, Assist. Prof. in Physical science & Sri. Shanavas, Ass. Prof. in Physical Education handled the sessions. Students were divided in to various groups. Items included were Glass painting, Flower making, Jewellery & Greeting card making, Fabric painting etc.
