O’Connell School SGC Meeting – Minutes

Meeting called to order: 6:00pm

Members present:

Parent Group - Becky Johansen, Tony Correnti, Elizabeth Luparia

Teacher Group - Renee Byers, Sara Smith

Administrators - Principal Greg Fox

Minutes:

Welcome New Committee Members – Greg welcomed the new parent members,TonyCorrenti and Elizabeth Luparia to the School Governance Council. He also welcomed Sara Smith who is a new teacher member.

Review School Improvement Plan (SIP) – the committee worked as pairs to review the SIP. Each group shared out information they gained from discussing the SIP in their pairs.

Tony/Renee – Theory of Action 1 Transform Student Learning

Renee highlighted the areas in the section of the document. This section covers curriculum development for grades K-5. It was shared the district is moving toward the workshop model for all curricular areas. Also, Renee shared the assessments teachers administer to the students throughout the school year.

Sara/Becky – Theory of Action 2 Build a Rich and Vibrant Learning Culture

Sara shared the different student leadership opportunities that are available to our OC students. She also explained the PBIS and Cub Club programs in our school and how this is assisting students with displaying appropriate behaviors more consistently throughout their day. It was discussed how our OC staff continues to promote a positive staff climate.Becky shared the events that PTO is involved in during the school year.

Greg/Elizabeth – Theory of Action 3 Attract and Grow a Talented Diverse Work Force

Greg shared information regarding our partnership with UCONN. Our school has 5 UCONN

Interns who currently work,18 hours a week in our school. He also shared that one of our

teachers is a part of the Leadership Committee and has focused her project around the

Claims for SBACTesting. Greg explained that some of our teachers participated in the FUND forTeachers.

Announcements- different options for communicating with families was discussed. (ie. Television in the lobbies, E-Notify, notices on bulletin board in the East & West lobbies)

Partnership –we discussed different ways that parents can begin to partner with O’Connell.

Bylaws- a copy of bylaws were distributed to new members of SGC
