JOB DESCRIPTION

Based at: / Westminster Befriend a Family head office- London (Victoria)
Working Hours: / 35 hours per week
Salary / £50,000 per annum

Westminster Befriend a Family is a small, award-winning charity that provides high quality services to families living in temporary accommodation in Westminster. We are looking for an exceptional candidate with excellent leadership and relationship building skills and a proven track record in successful management in the health and social care field.

A-JOB PURPOSE

  • To ensure that Westminster Befriend a Family (WBAF) delivers high quality outreach and support services for vulnerable families in Westminster
  • To ensure that WBAF achieves its charitable objectives through high quality work that reflects the organisation’s values and mission
  • To run the charity on a day-to-day basis; managing its finances, a small staff team and building on the organisation's excellent reputation
  • To provide leadership and strategic direction to WBAF
  • To support the Board of Trustees so it can ensure effective governance and sustainable services

B-MAIN TASKS

Managerial

Day to day management of WBAF, including:

  • Developing and implementing strategic goals
  • Recruiting, managing and supervising a small staff team
  • Overseeing the recruitment, induction and management of all volunteers; including attending some volunteer supervisions
  • Overseeing social work student placements and occasional on-site supervision of social work students
  • Promoting anti-discriminatory practice throughout the organisationthrough the organisation’s equal opportunity policy.

Functional

Responsible for service delivery, including:

  • Overseeing Projects Managers to ensuring WBAF delivers a well-managed volunteer befriending scheme.
  • Attending social services children and families meetings as part of a multi-agency team
  • Promoting and representing WBAF's best interests through liaison with statutory, community and business agencies and attendance at key forums
  • Promoting awareness of the needs of families to policy makers, funders and other service providers
  • Reviewing the quality of service delivery, including implementation of quality assurance systems such as Investors in Volunteers and PQASSO
  • Implementing effective monitoring and evaluation systems
  • Keeping abreast of legislative and policy changes, including child protection policies, affecting WBAF’s services and updating policies as required
  • Overseeing and, on occasion, delivery of required training courses
  • Ensuring that WBAF staff and volunteers understand and adhere to WBAF's policies and procedures
  • Providing regular reports on finance and service delivery to the Board of Trustees
  • Managing governance arrangements, including compliance with Companies House and the Charity Commission’s reporting and submission requirements

Financial

Responsible for the financial sustainability of WBAF including:

  • Overseeing the development of a fundraising strategy and ensuring its alignment with the business plan and budgetary requirements
  • Overseeing and implementing the preparation of the annual budget and other financial statements in collaboration with external Accountants and Treasurer
  • Ensuring all monitoring reports are completed and sent to funders as required.
  • Managing leases and tenancy agreements

Further to perform any other duties commensurate with these responsibilities, and skills and qualifications of the post-holder

Degree in Social Work or other relevant qualification / Training or teaching qualification / experience

Experience of implementing change within an organisation / Supervising social work students
Managing staff / budgets / Managing complex family cases

Implementing monitoring and evaluation processes and systems
